I’m with Hiro and Andy on this. It’s a shocking indictment of the incompetence and apathy which seems to pervade DTG that they haven’t devoted programmer resources as a priority to fixing this unpleasant aspect of passenger behaviour. Just as with the bridge signs on TVB, at times I’m given to think they really don’t have a clue. Maybe it will take one or more of the real rail operators to threaten withdrawal of a licence to galvanise them into action.

DTG must know the game is played by rail staff, many of whom may have been directly or indirectly involved in one or more of these unpleasant incidents for real. Time they grew up and sorted it out.

At risk of playing devil’s advocate here, and will prefix what I will say by saying there isn’t a single bug in the game I personally deem to be acceptable. But with regards to the ongoing conversation, where do we draw the line between a game just being a game and reality? Following some of the sentiments here, should ETS 2 be concerned over truck brands licensing because the AI there can be funky at times, causing accidents? Should sim racing titles be fearful of car brands removing licenses because the AI may have a severe accident with the player?

This is the reality of having games that replicate reality; they may also replicate the bad as well as the good. Now of course in this situation we’re talking about a bug, but the concerns here haven’t been about it just being a bug and that’s it. If you’re someone who’s had racing experience and was involved in a big crash in reality, and know you can be triggered by experiencing a crash in a game, it’s probably best to avoid racing titles altogether. Same for a real life truck driver being involved in a fatal crash. The majority of these simulations don’t focus on creating these scenarios in their games, but they can and do happen.
