Ok, so my second impression ist a lot better.... Spawned in Meißen (Dresden-Riesa) and had a play with free roam. Spawned a Vectron with dostos and set a path to Coswig in to the sidings. Then I got out, left my train in the sidings and jumped on a Talent to Dresden. While I was letting the AI drive me, the dynamic weather kicked in and it started snowing. By the time I got to Dresden, the whole landscape was white... Great feature from TSW 3! Then I got out and randomly spawned a Class 66 and drove it around for a while.
Free Roam in Timetable mode ist absolute fire! Best addition to the game since ever.... also the Vectron is the best german Loco by far in TSW. Great stuff! Looking forward to mucking about with all my other content when DLC transfers over in 4 days!

Where? The only toggle I can find is for menu screens, and I already have that off.

N&W's last steam run in revenue service was Y-6b No. 2190 on May 6, 1960. Like many RR, notably UP, N&W kept some in running condition for railtours, but those don't really count.

Yes, NG, short line and industrial engines hung on for a few years longer.

I am loving the Vectron and my first run on Voralburg is going to get posted in the Awesome Services thread as soon as all the layers come out. The horns sound great. The blended horns (ctrl spacebar, IIRC) even better. However, it did have trouble getting the horns to stop when I used the blend. It seems better since I remapped the key binding.

The new background mountains seem to be a nice improvement over previous sims, though the snow caps on the Austrian route look very much the same from mountain to mountain. Still a nice improvement in detail and rendering...makes me really wish for the Kicking Horse Pass in TSW4.

Nice touch on the MetroLink route to have sequenced horns included.

For me, the new minimal HUD is a game changer. Does what it’s designed to do. Feels way more immersive to now have the massive speedometer anymore.

Rain is also much better in-cab. Passengers are a bit more immersive with luggage, dioramas, etc. The mountains in Austria looks absolutely intimidating, and the clouds hang below the peaks- love it.

Lots more I like, but the gist is that the little tweaks brought to this version have made me feel quite a bit more immersed.

I’ve put in about 8 hours today, and out of all the routes the Austrian route is my favourite. It’s a beautiful looking route, so much to look at on your journey. Performance wise, everything feels great. I’m loving the vibration functionality finally on the Dualsense controller and the Sifa alerts that come from the speaker on the controller too.
The most disappointing route for me is the ECML. The Azuma is fun to drive, but the route it’s on is so bland. All this route is, is endless fields. I know Matt said King’s Cross would’ve been tough to model, but that’s something the team needs to work on eventually. Bringing central London to life. We need stations like Charing Cross, London Bridge, Cannon Street modelled in the game if we’re ever going to get a proper Thameslink route.
The Azuma’s AWS is very quiet too. I could barely hear it inside the cab. Actually tripped me up a couple of times because I couldn’t hear it lol.

no sign of Steam letting me download this yet...

[update] Ha! Just had to turn Steam off and back on again. Fortunately it's faster than a boiler blowdown and washing.

Hello and thank you Quentin for that information. I think that's what it was.
In the meantime I have found a solution:
    I copied the folder :
    C:\Users\Denis msi BF\Documents\My Games\TrainSimWorld3\Saved\SaveGames

    and pasted it into
    C:\Users\Denis msi BF\Documents\My Games\TrainSimWorld4\Saved\SaveGames
and I found my profile in TSW4.
Thanks again for taking an interest in my problem.
    Denis

I've watched a few streams, I don't know what it is, but I just can't find anything to be excited about, it's just some DLC for TSW3 in a new dress.
Just very underwhelming, definitely waiting for a deep sale.

  14. How's the TAA flickering, especially when stationary?

I skipped special/deluxe after they couldn't launch addons on early access, and it will be soo much cheaper (6 bucks per route! ;) Vec and scot can wait, I want my whole collection be available at once. So will stay with TSW3 till all my addons are incorporated into "new" version.

  17. As regards flickering, go to 2.43 in the following video and look at the fences in the middle distance. Just awful..
Too much bloom too, so it looks washed out. Reshade can fix a lot of it but the flickering is a deal breaker for me.

It's still the same engine, it looks the same and plays the same.If there are visual aspects of TSW 3 you don't like, expect to see them in TSW 4 as well.

I'm waiting on the older DLC to become available before making a final judgement on performance but on PS5 stutter has improved. I was very surprised that Dresden runs this smooth. Never experienced it this smooth. I'm not saying there is not stutter but it is not as annoying as it was in TSW2 or TSW3 so far. Waiting for the ICE and 101 to do that performance test.

Turns out that after the initial feedback, I couldn't wait until getting back from holiday, so took all night to download it. Having done the tutorials and a couple of runs on ECML and a bit in the Vectron, I'm quite happy with it so far.

    Current random thoughts :
    • I like ECML more than I thought I would - It's a really nice route.
    • I don't like generally like Steam Trains, but the Flying Scotsman Model is stunning.
    • I hate the music in the scenarios and I haven't yet found a way to turn it off. You can't hear the train properly and it ruins my concentration.
    • AWS is too quiet on the 801 as has already been mentioned a few times.
    • Love the Vectron, this is the main reason I wanted TSW4 apart from Just Trains upcoming route,
    • The distant scenery in Vorarlberg is very nice, a big improvement on previous routes.
    • Indifferent about the US Route, but it looks nice. Just not really the kind of thing I like, but I will play it.
    • I'm not having any worse stutters than before and as has been mentioned above it is significantly better on the 2nd run as was TSW3 (I have my PC set up with unlimited shader cache, so it should only be compiling shaders when the driver updates).
    • Free Roam - A game changer. This is brilliant.
    • Altogether quite happy so far, clearly some things that need fixing, but I haven't found anything game breaking.
Now I'm really looking forward to being able to download the rest of my DLC, but that really will have to wait until I get home. I estimate it would take 2.5 days at the hotels wifi speed.

I haven't tried any ini changes yet. I used Jetwash's Ultra or High settings in TSW3 and they made a big difference. So interested to see if they will work - Hope so.

Been running over AVL and checking scenery and what sidings I can use in free roam.

On the plus side there is some things that DTG has done well with the route.

On the other hand, there is alot of very bad scenery issues that need to be fixed.

Why is there a bridge missing to the Water treatment plant?

Not to mention a handful of siding are unusable due to the "You have reach the end of the represented segment" wall. Including the tracks at the Water Treatment and LAAFP.

Will say that whoever did the Weyerhaeuser location near Via Princessa, did a really damn good job on it, probally the best looking industy in the route (Shame the rest don't look as good.....)

Really? I felt like it’s been reduced significantly. There’s always going to be some stutter, that’s never going to change. Comparing TSW4 to TSW3’s stutter at launch, I remember how bad it was driving into Ashford international from the depot. I was getting 15-20fps at best with stutter. TSW4 is no where on this level. It plays very well. I tried 4 services with the OBB, a couple with the Azuma and one with the Scotsman. It all felt very well optimised, only thing that bugged me is the AWS in the Azuma (too quiet). I play on the PS5.
What system do you play on?

A very powerful PC. In fairness it may well have been impacted by my streaming at the time, however approaching P'borough was a slideshow for a few seconds. Rejoining the cab also freezes the game for a little while and is always very frustrating.

It’s crazy how we all have different experiences. All the times I’ve gone into Peterborough, it’s been just brief stutters which we expect.
I always find the scenarios to be the worst for stutters though and terrible fps drops. I haven’t tried any yet.

Yet in my case, AVL was very smooth even in downtown LA, but ECML this afternoon, in the bland countryside between Stoke Summit and Peterborough was a stutter fest with at least one outright 5 or so second pause/freeze (even the sound stopped). Will have to see what difference caching makes but in the case of ECML I fear it could be that awful new chunky looking OHLE wire dragging it down.

OHLE has no impact on FPS, it'll be other things. But - never judge your first couple of runs, because shader caching is a huge cause of stutter.

Fair enough on that one Matt, I'll see what happens on the next run.

Not really liking its appearance though - as I noted like something you would encounter on an early ETS2 map at a railway line or how SimRail looked at one point.

More issues I've encountered on the ECML is I seem not to have any timetable services with the platinum medal available on the ECML, the DRA dose not illuminate to RED, the brake percentage dial seem to move/Flickr alot when at high speed. So I think I was shipped with the wrong version of the Ecml. I'm on (PS5). another thing is when walking down the train the camera kept jumping out and I landed on the roof. So I think PS5 was shipped with the wrong version as well the PIS seems off to me on the ECML doesn't look like the one what other peoples looks like. So maybe PS5 had the wrong version shipped out idk.

Maybe do a redownload - there was an issue with the PS5 version where it didnt seem that some people got the release version, we re-pushed things to trigger some internal things on the playstation side and that seemed to cure it but maybe you need a re-download.

Actually quite enjoying the ECML but the Azuma seems far too quiet in general. Better sound insulation than my Lexus ES! Very easy to miss AWS as it is almost whisper quiet....

I've tried that Matt and that still doesn't work.
Edit: Is there any other options for playstation players to fix this please.
Plus shall I download the game and just wait for the game and the ECML to be downloaded without me going on the game while the ECML is downloading.
    Does that work?

Is there any reason why when completing timetable services in journey mode the score breakdown lists safety systems and wipers in rain as N/A when I used both?? (it was raining) Also stopped within 2 yards of the station stop objective marker but only received 478 points. Pretty far off from the 495-500 I would've received in TSW3 with that stopping accuracy. On another run my stopping accuracy was a little worse but received more points. Seems pretty inconsistent so I'm a bit confused as to how things are working...

Drove on the Azumi last night and was spoiled by 3 things. Trees changing colour very close to the train (why has nothing been done about this) AWS clear signal barely audible, AWS alert completely inaudible (causing train to come to a complete stop 3 times) and the overhead catenary being too thick, looking like a snake stretching into the distance (I never had a problem with it before). Overall was possibly expecting better quality graphics as TSW3, but more of the same. Hopefully I will get used to it.

Yes it looks awful on ECML, not quite so bad on Vorarlberg. Hopefully this is something that can be changed or reverted back to what it was, or give us the choice of how to display the OHLE. Thinking about it, actually reminds me of some of the very early and coarse scale catenary that was used on model railways in the 60's and 70's.

Some of those shots look cringeworthy, but, as with Cajon Pass, they will probably not be fixed.

I'll probably make a full run tonight and make notes to put in the feedback thread for scenery improvements.

Granted I'm expecting it to be treated like Cajon (AKA no patches)

Admittedly not had much playtime yet. Only had time last night for the introductions to ECML and Antelope Valley as well as the intro training for the Azuma, F125 and Scotsman.

New routes/locos aside, it feels like a game where it's a lot of small things that have come together to make the experience feel fresh. The new HUD and controller vibration is already helping make driving far more immersive. I'm really looking forward to trying a night service; the volumetric fog combined with the lit-up cab displays in the Azuma and F125 ought to make for some very cozy sessions.

With the deluxe package I also think the game has very strong variety in the content on offer. I usually only really care about UK routes yet I've found myself drawn to all of the offerings equally this time. I think the new HUD forcing more engagement with the cabs is making me appreciate each loco more. Also the child in me just loves the novelty of a double decker train and travelling through Scotsman's tender corridor.

We only need to wait until Tuesday for our back catalogue but, in an alternate reality where it was actually a few weeks away, I think there's enough variety here where I wouldn't be missing my existing routes TOO much in the meantime.

And finally, I've already sent Scotsman into orbit by accident on Day 1. I tested free roam at the training centre and didn't realise my track wasn't a connection to the outer loop and slammed into the buffers at 65ish mph. My bad :o

There always seems an issue with consistency across TSW. I was watching a review of TSW4 earlier and the reviewer said one of the new routes has amazing distant mountains thanks to new technology, but then Antelope Valley has terrible distant mountains.

    +1
It would be a good thing if they reverted back to the original OHLE on all affected routes.
Kudos for trying, but they don’t look great as many have pointed out.

    Loving it!

New HUD is a challenge, but it makes me really focus on the in-cab dials and systems, while complementing them with info real drivers would have with route knowledge, etc.

Haptic feedback in nice, but set way too high initially. Good that it is adjustable.

Scoring seems really harsh. I completed a few perfect runs with good stopping and no penalties, but still only got silver.
