When they designed this.... Anyway you can ride this when it's restored. https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/the-heritage-railway-restoring-a-gwr-diesel-railcar-58811/
Well these things were designed at a time when steam was at it's height, so they're really the forerunners of the MUs we see today, kind of like a 1930s sprinter or pacer (but much more modern in it's day) The buffers were added to earlier models so they could also haul local freight along with the passengers on branch lines, and later on woudl be "lashed together" with a coach in the middle to form a 3 car train... All very forward thinking!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. I love the look of these. I appreciate you posting. I’ll check out the website later. Hopefully I’ll get to see it for real one day.
*Cough* Class 70. To my mind the first batch of railcars with their rounded streamlining were more pleasing to the eye. I remember riding one on the SVR in the '70s.
This is the type of train you find ugly at first but the more you see it the more you appreciate it. I had the same feeling for the Autorail Bugatti WR
If it didn't have the buffers stuck to it then it might look better. If I was a billionaire this would be my personal train though.
