I agree with this, the speed limit really should be fixed. If you stick to it the St. Ives branch is very tedious to drive.

I don't think the scenery on WCL is all bad, the stations are nicely and much of the scenery is very good. I don't know Cornwall that intimately so will bow to the locals better knowledge regarding the amount of trees. At least the put in a much better representation of Truro Cathedral than the original release!

I can't see anything being done with WCL though. Ideally it would be great to see it extended to Plymouth with a proper Valenta engined HST and the class 150's physics/sounds properly fixed. A lighting upgrade would be nice too.

It is rare I drive it, I bought it in a sale with quite a hefty discount, I usually buy UK routes by pre-order or on release, the only routes I haven't bought like this are Rivet I have to say.

If they at least fixed the speed limit on the St. Ives branch, set the class 150 up properly and found a way for users to remove the absurd layers I would use it a lot more.

The game doesn’t need them, the vanilla experience is perfectly fine. Mods just allow those to customise that experience to their own preferences. I don’t really use them on PC myself anymore, but still can admire some of the work that goes into them.

Nothing wrong with playing consoles, the Z fighting doesn’t happen on PS5 in my experience and textures look identical to PC. Only main difference between PC and Gen9 is draw distances, and foliage intensity which are set to High rather than Ultra, plus higher FPS depending on your PC specs.

Whatever platform once chooses to play on is perfectly valid.

I quite like the absurd layers.:)

I replace the 150 with the 101 (I never touch the 150) and I play it as if it’s the 1980s. I agree it would be good to have a choice about layers though, as I understand why some people don’t like them and this would be valuable across all TSW routes.

WCL was one of those ‘so near and yet so far’ routes for me. With just a little bit of post-launch attention to address some critical issues it could have been great, but Rivet had moved on. It always seems odd to me when a developer puts thousands of hours of work into something, then when a couple of issues are identified which heavily affect game-play and would take just a few hours more to fix they say ‘nah, it’s not worth it’.

Such a waste, and so much unnecessary damage to their reputation and future sales.

Cornwall has too many trees in the game, as a county Cornwall isn't that wooded compared to say Surrey and Sussex which actually still look less wooded in the game than Cornwall does(they got those counties spot on with the right amount of trees, houses and pastureland.) From my memories of taking trains in Cornwall only the Looe branch is mostly trees.

It's awesome. The author has added a lot of nice vegetation to the bland scenery. Best you can make out of the DLC.

A few mouseclicks and you'll have a new route :)

lt’s a shame Spikee, that Rivet couldn’t be bothered to improve their route, they would have had more respect if they had.

l am assuming that this update is for Steam only and not for console users?

WCL came up in a random quick play last night. It’s a real mess. Running up the St Ives branch with the Jubilee, in addition to the erroneous 20 MPH speed limit, large sections of the lineside are unfenced. Back on the mainline those foot crossings guarded with a single set of LC road lights and warblers really started to grate. You notice it more leaning out of a steam loco. Given what we have seen with Fife Circle, I am coming to the conclusion Rivet give their UK routes to build by someone who has little clue about how railways work in general and the UK in particular.

Still no news on an update or remaster for WCL. Since this atrocious route was delivered to us by Rivet, Just Trains have become a third party developer and Blackpool Branches their first route was totally outstanding and their Preston Carlisle route looks just as good. Just Trains set a new benchmark with their wonderful routes.
    Just Trains=just terrific. Rivet=Rubbish.

l don’t think Rivet will ever improve WCL as they are incapable of doing so. In comparison to the work Just Trains have produced Rivet should be totally ashamed of their efforts.

They never said they would, so why are you waiting for a patch nobody announced? The product was offered as is - read the EULA, you could've checked reviews before buying. I clearly remember a review stating it was "a poor rendition of West Cornwall" on the TSW2 store page back then. Screenshots proved this. Never buy in hope of a patch! Only buy when it matches your standards. Not hard in the age of Youtubers reviewing stuff for you. I got it somewhen in a bundle, so for the few Euros, five, I guess, I can't complain. I'm filling my lungs with tobacco daily that's worth more cash... :|

May sound harsh, but a developer cannot offer "lifetime update service" unless they're only selling a single product, and Rivet have a much bigger portfolio than Skyhook, who could afford to focus only on one of their routes, the MML, to bring it on par with DTG's TSW3 route quality (with community modders' help - don't forget that), and eventually stopped making routes altogether (and also not caring for their other broken DLC, they've got their Lawn Mower sim).

Have you checked how many empty hills and non-vegetational green texture fields NTP features?

I think DTG should completely hide the developers from the customers. I bet some feedback would be very different.

I very much doubt Rivet will do any more work with this route, they haven't said they would so I don't understand why there is an assumption they will. If anything is done to it, it will be a passion project.

I don't think Rivet are rubbish, they have produced some decent add-ons, even FCL isn't as bad as made out although it certainly could be better. There are lots of good points about WCL, the stations for example. The class 150 is well modelled although the physics/sound are poor.

Rivet are actually quite innovative and think outside the box so not sure all this bashing is quite warranted to be honest.

You would probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than expecting Rivet to patch this route up. Rivet are the worst third party developer in TSW and there is no chance that they will go back and improve this route. Sure they may add new things like announcements to some routes and model certain things alright, but the experience on many of their products is soured by either poor sounds, physics, bugs and scenery that don't get improvements which is why they get the bad reputation that they do. Yet there are some that act dumbfounded as to why Rivet constantly have a negative reception compared to other third parties

Unfortunately its not going to happen because they can't be bothered. Which is a shame because I love the Class 150, but its been ruined.

Absolutely. It just appeared to me that the OP was going in circles, and sometimes it's better to have one's eyes opened instead of constantly craving for a fix that was not promised, eventually making yourself sick and bitter. (I remember how a pal helped me in dark days, long story cut short. He told me to "forget her!" every time I mentioned memories of that woman... not even letting me finish the sentence, which was very clever. His "harshness" and "Let's go fishing" helped me a lot to see through the circle of self-raised expectations and thus permanent disappointments eventually, freeing my mind.)

It was more trying to help the OP with the fact that there's no update because devs need to move on to new projects to survive. DLC done, next one to pay the bills. Take it or leave it. Rivet are probably working on their next route, and someone has been delegated to finish the Leven Branch.

That's why I say only buy when you like what you see - everything else leads to making your mood depend on the decisions of others - a guarantee for disappointment. I don't want to put myself into that situation any more. And it's just a friggin' game. I play it for enjoyment, not for getting angry. If it makes me angry, I'll just delete it from my computer.

Tbf Rivet have a history of poor post release support. But then I don't think it's unfair to expect Devs to fix content (SHG with MML totally turned it around). But then both rivet and DTG have a tendency to brush flawed/messy content under the rug with little to no explanation in the hope that people eventually forget about it.

I think it's very much turning into a choose your routes/Devs carefully based upon previous releases.

With all due respect, you are raising unrealistic hopes here again. Hope is helping noone. (yes, sounds harsh I know...)

Liam has enough work to do with upgrading the back catalogue from DTG :)

A modder has already made a WCL scenery Enhancement Pack, combined with my TOD4 mod it's an enjoyable route, honestly. You may say that's because I was never there in real life, fair enough. Point is I'm happy!

Being harsh again: Don't expect Rivet to do it! Forget it! (mantra) You already know they never did, so why expect a change? Jasper won't tell you because he'll get roasted.

I sympathise with the OP. But this is Rivet, they've tarnished their own reputation and the backlash they receive is completely warranted despite what others say.

I've written novel length Rivet criticism on the forum in the past, so it's pointless me repeating myself again without sounding like a broken record.

All I can say in regard to Rivet is, 'Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me'. Make of that what you will...

Rivet is an extremely poor developer in my eyes. Once they’ve released something, that’s that. I’ve long lost all hope of them ever fixing anything.

Their community engagement is pretty much nonexistent and all the feedback we give falls on deaf ears.

To add insult to injury, they release videos talking about how much attention to detail they put in their routes and train models. Whilst their train models are reasonably good, they’re totally ruined by lacklustre sounds and performance.

Just Trains have absolutely blown them out of the water with their first TSW route and Skyhook have shamed them with how well they listened to the community and turned what was initially a poor route (MML) into one of the best routes in the game.

If Skyhook can do it, why not Rivet?

DTG should restrict Rivet from releasing any new content on their platform until they buck their ideas up.

No - you should just not buy their DLC, as you've given the reasons yourself. In fact you are blaming others for your own inconsequence. This is a free market - everybody can offer their products. You say Yes or No.

That's no reason to not let others who enjoy the stuff purchase it. You can just pretend it's not there, save your money, but not decide what others are able to enjoy or not. DTG will not drop their most important partner Rivet any time soon. There's probably more Rivet in DTG DLC than you imagine. And surely not because forum members are playing CEO.

And don't think somebody else would make those routes instead - they'd just not exist. Same result for you as not purchasing.

I agree there does need to be more quality control in regards to Rivet. A faulty product is a faulty product regardless of it being digital or a physical object. The majority of players I've come across give largely negative feedback of Rivet and state poor quality as the biggest factor.

You can't say "well don't just buy it", you need to hold the developer to account. The customer has the right to point out faults in a product without the fear of going "well don't buy it". The person wouldn't know of the faults if they didn't buy it. Whether it's a physical object or a digital product if a fault is found it's down to the developer to rectify or repair a fault. The blame shouldn't be shifted onto the customer and then make them out to be partly at fault. (Don't get me wrong if someone continues to buy several faulty products maybe they need their head looking at!) But for the most part newcomers and people who have purchased a product deserve to have issues sorted when they've paid a decent amount of money for a product.

As I've pointed out I know Rivet to well now and won't be purchasing anymore of their products for all of the above reasons. So I'd advise other people who have previous negative experience of their products to also do the same thing.

I can say just don't buy it because you gotta make your own decisions in life. And if you don't decide for yourself you'll get angry.

Everyone is clicking the purchase button but no one is reading the contract they agree to at that moment.

I do understand CityTramSim to use fictional worlds. Nobody can complain about a house missing that's there in real life.

Rivet forgot a transparent wall on Fife Circle, people went beyond the playable (and advertised) area and childishly posted screenshots of bad scenery.

I sincerely respect what you are saying, I just politely disagree.

What I would say is, alternatively, instead of going through the hassle of even attempting to read a long contract, just avoid the disappointment altogether and go on what a majority of reviews say about their products.

I feel for Rivets modellers though, I don't have a single issue with the standard of their train modelling as its pretty damn perfect. In fact, DT could learn a thing or to from the quality of the wheel sets they create for units. The Class 170 has superb reflective metallic wheels compared to DTs wheel sets! A random (and single!) compliment amongst massive criticism... But, that doesn't make up for the rest of the massive issues that plague their products.

Anyway, that'll be my last two pence piece on the subject!

I dread the next route Rivet have planned. Too much worrying about getting the route out the door as quickly as they can. That’s what it seems like to me. Apart from the sounds. They are perfect when it comes to Modelling trains so they aren’t all that bad. Maybe they should stick to Loco DLC’s. If they would just take time and slow down a little bit during development and put a little more effort into building routes then they would be one of the best I reckon.

I fully agree with that. You just have to understand that what is a "realistic" depiction in the game, is highly debatable and subjective. You can't hold the devs accountable for scenery or sounds (for crashes you can!), you can only wish for good will (and for other platforms offering a two hour refund window like Steam. Test it yourself, and give it back with a comment what you didn't like about it.)

Filing bug reports is more helpful than a wild crossfire of angry statements. Stay cool, and for your own sake, expect the product to stay as it is when you've purchased it. I'm just advocating a healthy amount of pessimism (which leads to indifference when you're right, and to nice surprises in case you're wrong - see GWE remaster :) ).

I was going to make point very similar to this: old routes are never good. Same goes for TSC by the way. No one uses the first couple of routes from way back. There are a couple of excaptions to the rule: Sand Patch Grade seems to be the best US route in game from what I´ve read and TSC has some gems from way back like WCML over shap. But the general rule is: old routes tend to suck. Aschaffenburg-Gemünden is also really bad on the German side (I drive in real life, trust me). In TSW remasters are beeing done for free by DTG... in TSC the community has to sort it. So I guess you guys have better.

Old routes wont typically be as good as newer routes that have more features etc, but I when it comes to both TSW/TSC, ‘old’ really straddles the line of abandonware. WCL was pretty bad by TSW2 standards, there’s a lot wrong with it that isn’t excused by being released a few years ago.

Ultimately WCL is just another block in Rivets tower of disappointment that is their TSW content.

Do you think the tower is wonky enough, or should they add some more wonk?

Why should they restrict them just because you have an issue with them? I have most of their routes and enjoy them. Many others presumably do otherwise they would have stopped producing content for TSW.

Some of this thread is hyperbole. The good things are ignored.

Yes WCL is likely the poorest TSW route, I personally rarely play it but it isn't all bad.

IOW is a good route. Berninalinie has very good reports, I haven't bought it yet as I thought it should have gone further.

Arosalinie was innovative and their first TSW route. Yes it had issues with distant hills being sparse but it was a first in many ways and has had improvements.

Luzern was nicely modelled but there were issues with safety systems.

Edinburgh to Glasgow is a perfectly good route with a well modelled train which was mainly let down by it's sounds.

FCL isn't as bad as was made out and has some lovely moments. I agree it probably should have been given another month or two.

Overall Rivit do have flaws but so do the other developers. Such classic routes like NTP have their issues, some of the barren Pennine landscape is too barren for example.

There are plenty of opportunities to view a product before hitting the purchase button. When a route is released there are plenty of YouTube videos plus it gets forensically examined on here.

Liam is a wizard and would improve this route by 200%. However, I doubt that Rivet would let an external developer touch their product. How I wish this could happen though, especially when you see what he has achieved with the many errors on the original GWE that are set for improvement in the upcoming remaster.

The saga of the OP, this route and Rivet, is pretty much summed up by saying this is their local line and it didn't meet their expectations of how they wanted it to look in game, they got angry and as time went on and it wasn't fixed to their expectation and standard, they have devolved into a obsessive hated for anything Rivet produced......

I guess my standard for quality is higher than others. I’m surprised how many players still support Rivet, but hey ho. It’s your money.

Majority of people fully understand that this is just a chunk of software code, and will never replicate reality, to the obscene levels that some demand, and just enjoy the routes that Rivet produced, for the relaxing hobby of train Sims, computer/video games, whatever you class this hobby of ours....

    Happy Birthday,

    Here is your new Ferrari.

Majority of people understand that cars are just modes of transport, and will never provide the obscene levels of luxury they expect. So just enjoy it for what it is.

Well perhaps if they didn't advertise their products the way they do, players wouldn't have "high expectations". For a game that constantly advertises itself as an authentic simulator, it's hardly suprising that people expect that

Nice try, fully appreciate the effort, but that's only a 2.8 not a 3 litre model, so to bring it full circle back round to the game, that makes it unplayable because it's not accurate, as some of the voices would cry in here......

  50. To answer the original question, no. There is a bigger chance of TSG finally releasing the DB BR 420 then rivet fixing this route.
