A new feature for TSW7. Making it more engaging/enhancing the overall gameplay and experience for the player. Blowing your horn at whistle boards. These would appear on your hud display on the top right with your upcoming signal information. They would impact your medal score at the end of a run, if you fail to acknowledge them in time you’ll get an “objective failed” message like when not stopping at a station.
This sounds like a good idea, and is something I'd love to see along with all new routes using AI Whistle Boards as well.
I like whistle boards as they currently are. If you like realism, you can sound the whistle. If you like a more casual approach, all fine too. Current system suits both play styles.
Hmm but don't forget that in today's modern railway some whistleboards are to be ignored and only acknowledged during certain circumstances/times of day - thanks to NIMBY complaints of course. Heck I still remember the talk of single tones at W boards and for a two-tone they'd have WW boards... I'd rather they just left it as it is, after all it is just something else to get borked and stuff up gameplay for everyone. What would be nice though is if P-Way did actually acknowledge you sounding your whistle, heck they managed to do it in BVE...
I like realism, but i still want the game to penalise and reward for it. They have this feature in TSC, so no reason not to bring it to TSW one day.
I don't recall TSC rewarding you for whistle boards, I do remember it penalising you for "improper horn use" though which meant I was always in negative points for repeatedly blasting either Darth Vader's "Imperial March" or the Yorkshire Television jingle everytime I passed a trainspotter... EDIT: Just to add, this was brought up to me in real life once. I was doing my bi-annual rules exam and the footplate standards manager asked "when is it appropriate to sound the horn?" of which I gave the correct answers but also tagged on "when going over the ski-jump passing the Premier Inn to try to wake up my hungover wife"
