Strange, I have just fired it up on pc and I am not seeing a freight timetable. I do have all freight routes installed except cane creek, but not seeing the service. I've read somewhere it can be seen as ai, but that's it

I'm on board with you! Container loading/unloading was a fairly common feature in TS, even though the graphics were not satisfactory -- containers appeared and disappeared during the process.

Concerning freight.. I went back to TSC yesterday because of the release of Feather River Canyon Enhanced. I forgot how great freight was in TSC. It wasn’t just drive from point A to point B, but you worked lineside industries. On the above mentioned route on several scenarios you are granted permission to block the mainline as you drop off and pick up cars then proceed toward the destinations. Switched over to the Norfolk Southern N line and first scenario was working the industries all down the line… great fun. In TSW, Clinchfield is the only route that comes close to this type of running, I do hope Matt is able to follow through on his desire freshen up the route as he has mentioned.

While I know the timetable mode is a big feature for TSW, I do not feel it does justice for Freight other than point A to B type runs. Wholly convinced the scenario format is the way to go to be able to service lineside industries. Of course would want them to be more of a switch list type approach rather than a hand holding type instructions. Anyway still enjoying TSC for both freight and steam (another discussion). Just hoping TSW can evolve its freight to be more like what it is in TSC.

I love variety and that includes being able to do different freight runs as well as passenger services. Modern UK freight is SEVERELY lacking, especially given its real world growth in comparison to passenger rail.

I like US freight too when I am in the mood for a long, slow but relaxing drive. Even that seems to be in decline since Cajon Pass came with TSW3.

I buy every route on release day but ultimately I am not going to play and therefore continue buying back to back EMU and Dosto fests. More freight please.

I would love to see more freight in TSW most of the recent US releases have been basically passenger. I too like LeadCatcher went back into TSC. For the same reason the release of Feather River Enhanced, and a scenario pack for Arizona Divide and Raton Pass for freight action.

That is very good news Matt, and some things I have noticed on that route are the trackside signs are way too close to the trains, they are clipping into the trains. Also, some SD40 AI service runs have no front headlights on. Some parts of the routes are missing huge areas of scenery. I noticed these things because I have played it a lot and love the route concept. Love historical U.S. freight routes. Can't wait someday to play the updated version!

Yes! I have introduced this idea before on the forums. Saluda Grade would be very nice to see in TSW.

I enjoy the loading mechanics that come with coal and aggregate freight. I don't know if it is implemented but being able to load container trains and other types of goods would be cool. Probably best suited for a scenario so it doesn't break timetable mode. Freight at the moment does just seem a bit A to B in some routes.
A service I also think would be cool to see is Motorail, both freight (sort of) and passengers.

Or even old parcel trains that catch parcels from the trackside.

I believe Matt has stated that the top freight lines, ehm, companies, seem to be indifferent, or rather, disinclined to cooperate... part being paranoid about someone hijacking their trains, part being secretive, and part just not giving a LOVE* to sth that wouldnt bring em much money... aka put together, being ...holes... I mean, companies actively almost fighting against improvement of passenger rail cos it could lower their profits for a while, what do we expect, right?

so, they do what they are allowed and able to do

I appreciate the challenges they face in dealing with uncooperative operators and trying to keep us all happy, however, I feel they can do much more with what they already have at their disposal. There are already enough big US and UK freight operators in the game to make meaningful content. I enjoy passenger-orientated content too but if they keep churning out the same type of content every few weeks they are going to find it difficult to keep us interested in TSW.

Kudos to Rivet for getting DRS and Freightliner (albeit by the back door through ONE) into the game. I have enjoyed and spent more time with their engineering pack and Skyhooks Cargo Line pack than I have with any recent route, purely because they offer something different.
