Ok, so this is a translation thing as you are clearly misunderstanding what I’ve said. That wasn’t my answer at all, nowhere close. Let me try and phrase it differently; There is no need to put forward ideas of how to make an upgrade pack work in the stores because DTG already know how to do it. They have been doing it since the first day they released TSC, and they’ve done it twice with TSW. Hopefully that makes more sense.
I think this discussion, which we had last year, is a bit useless. they are not going to do it differently because a small group is complaining that it is unfair. You know what's unfair.... never even being satisfied with what is offered. In the Netherlands we always say don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Which means it's rude to be dissatisfied with what you're being offered.
I don't want to forbid you anything, but has it changed anything about the situation looking at last year? Pages full of the same discussion.....
My man, how in the hell is a PAID product a gift horse? I swear, DTG could personally mug you on the street for cash and some of you would still be happy, lol.
I think, and there is a point, they refer to the price for all that new content. They think its a steal -.-
Indeed. I might try selling a bunch of rocks and a bottle of water in the desert for $30. My point will be that I know the rocks might be useful for some people in some way and largely unwanted by others, but the water is part of that deal so you can only have it if you buy the rocks too. 'Hey, at least youll have some rocks', Ill say. Its a poor analogy I know, but the best I could come up with at short notice. If required I'll come up with a better one..
Lol how is paying for a product looking a gift horse in the mouth? We're all paying customers to DTG and we expect a quality product in return, we also don't wish to be lied to and have our trust broken in regards to it.
Seeing BCC came as a core bundle after launch, I suspect they'll do similar with JT Or, maybe new players saw it as the cheapest option to get into the game and did not know it was just the core mechanics?
My car needs a few fixes and one or two minor upgrades. I went to the garage and they promised to fix it but couldn't give me a date. They promised to though so that's cool. Anyway, the day came and I took it in, but the garage turned to me and said that they'll only fix next years model, all other models are now considered obsolete. 'Oh ok', I said, where can I buy next years model? To which the garage took me outside and showed me the new car which was pretty much the same as my current car except for some nice new windscreen wipers and the right to paint it myself. There was also a trailer attached, a caravan and a mariachi band playing a rather catchy tune. I told the garage that I only wanted the new (ish) car but they said that I had to buy the unwanted trailer, caravan and mariachi band otherwise I couldn't buy the car. I'm now the proud owner of a motorcycle.
And you will get extremely negative reviews on the Steam page. Why? Maybe it's simple because no one wants to buy a patch. Then someone from DTG will say "we took it off the market because no one liked it - buy the route".
You should see the comments on the Steam announcement posts... Nobody is happy there but according to people on this forum only a small number of people are "throwing their toys out the pram"
Correct. "TS4 upgrade" sounds better. Everyone loves an upgrade. I would pay for that but it already comes with my bundle
It doesn’t need to be anything. As with TSC (sorry antwerpcentral) on the day of release you open steam and get an update. When you start the game it’s TSW4, except you don’t have any extra routes or locos. Tried, tested and successful.
I assume then based on your position Microsoft upgraded your 360 then right? Or I assumed you paid for it like everyone else.
You see, the thing is, there is an actual difference between an XBox 360 and newer consoles. The release of TSW4 is like Microsoft releasing the XBox 360 2.0, but it's literally the same console, except newly released games will only run on that one.
Also pre ordering a game today literally makes no sense. There is no reason to pay for a product that isn't even out yet. I can name many games that have had pre orders but when they officially released, they were riddled with issues. There is no reason or benefit of pre-ordering any game
Well at the release of most new consoles the games made run on both the new one and the old one because they know not all the players will have the money to upgrade on day 1 but they still want to play the new games. This is the opposite
Oooof, I didn't expect an answer to the whole "why not just upgrade"... but now I would probably prefer silence to this. Others already pointed out how this is wrong, so I'm going to spare keystrokes on this. Yikes...
That's garbage reasoning. It effectively translates to "we can't effectively communicate so we're removing a basic purchase option" I have a feeling it wasn't "many players" but just a couple vocal ones. There is absolutely zero reason there can't be a basic "upgrade-only" option for just the core. If you can't communicate that to avoid confusion, that's on you, but don't penalize the community.
Its this sentence that has my jaw hanging slack.. "An upgrade pack featuring just the core game (training Center) is not in our current plans, instead we have provided a significant discount for players who pre-order the game" Ummm, we already own the game..
I count that rather as a failure of marketing: DTG simply didn't make clear what the product was (and was not). "This patch upgrades the TSW 2 core game to TSW3. It includes the Training Center, but all route and loco add-ons must be purchased separately."
I'm suprised they would make a simple error such as that. How was that not not realized by anyone at DTG that they should've put a disclaimer?
As far as I understand steam the upgrade pack could be only available for TSW3 owners or at least the discount only applied here. For example when some games get a remaster you only get the discounted pricing if you already had the version before. In extreme you could set the price to 999,99€ and apply a discount of 98% percent to it which would result in a price of around 20€. So it wouldn't be a problem to offer this to exactly the right target group - long time customers which already have a big TSW library and just want the core update. When putting it at a low price for everyone and not making clear it is the TSW3 base + training center only, yes it is misscommuication. But as mentioned above their are other ways of giving it only to owners of the previous version. Many possibilites here.
While that would be a perfectly valid strategy for Steam, it wouldn't be for consoles due to Sony and Microsoft which place their own severe restrictions on what and when discounts can be offered.
When was even the base upgrade available? I followed the game semi-regularly and heard about it first today
Same here. I've never heard about this at all whatsoever until now. When exactly did this even happen?
1000% this! Pre-ordering has always given me a laugh these days. Years ago you'd pre-order a physical disc to ensure your place and the inventory wouldn't run out on you. In the digital age are we really expecting inventory to run out? Digital pre-orders always dangle some ridiculous carrot like a skin or some such nonsense. In the case of TSW4 it's 5 days early access. Ohhhhh 5 days.. as if this is a life changing timeframe that will get you a head start on what... Sending in bug reports? I've always thanked early adopters though. Your high priced beta testing paves the way for my more complete game at half price discount a few months later.
ROFLMAO at your response. About those bug reports, with TSW2 being binned without remorse, TSW3 being canned or binned with some feeble excuse, what will happen with those lists of outstanding bugs? Ported over to TSW4 with the usual promises, which in the case of TSW2 were proven a blatant lie?
In the last years the upgrades from TSW to TSW2 and TSW3 have brought more problems to older routes instead of less. So we can expect the same will or at least could happen this time again. Calling it "Legacy" now doesn`t give me especially the feeling they are going back to it in the future.
