Because driving an HST at 25 mph for an hour would be soooo much fun

Hi mate, any possibility of getting the 166 DMU's as AI services to function on the main line near Norton Fitzwarren as they have regularly called at Taunton in GWR livery. I would appreciate if you can add this to fill up the different services, particularly if we wanted to train spot near Norton Fitzwarren.

No one has patience. Some are even going so far as to say they'll have to wait for a hypothetical TSW5.

Hey guys! I did the audio-side of the route overhaul & thought I'd share what's changed:

    Route:
    • Redone route zonal ambience
    • Added new detail sounds
    • Extended signal noise distance slightly
    • Added TSW4 Tunnel & Bridge noise
    • Added TSW4 Canopy rain noise
    • Added unique sounds to each collectible when picked up
    WSR Class 09:
    • Fixed the Class 09 horn cutting out when sounded
    • Altered internal cab mix
    • Added internal version of the 09 horn
    WSR Class 33:
    • Fixed the class 33 horn (Re-edited from the original recordings)
    • Implemented a new horn system to improve the loop-end transitions
    • Tweaked entire loco mix internal & external
    • Added internal version of the horn
    • Tweaked the horn switch sensitivity to make it feel more responsive
    WSR Class 52:
    • Fixed the class 52 horn (Re-edited from the original recordings)
    • Implemented a new horn system to improve the loop-end transitions
    • Tweaked the locos internal and external mix
    • Added internal version of the horn
    • Tweaked the horn switch sensitivity to make it feel more responsive
    WSR Class 47:
    • Fixed the class 47 horn
    • Implemented a new horn system to improve the loop-end transitions
    • Tweaked internal mix
    • Added internal version of the horn
    • Tweaked the horn switch sensitivity to make it feel more responsive
^Also thanks for mentioning this, I'll have to have a look to see if there's something I can do about that

Will the Class 47 sound changes carry across to other routes that use the 47?

Not initially planned as the 47 is fairly different to the 47-4 on other routes, but I could certainly give it a look

Not sure if this has been shared yet, but here’s a pretty cool behind the scenes video from DTG Rhys Lampard detailing his audio work on the remastered WSR!

He also has some other insightful videos on his channel and articles on his website. Amazing to see this amount of transparency, hoping for more to come! :D

Don’t want to ruffle feathers here but surely posting pics when on Beta testing is against NDA agreement?

Perhaps we can go for realism and put two castle set HST in Minehead to be used over two dates for special running like they had a few months ago!

The video was posted after we knew through the december roadmap which went into a lot of detail. It's not like there's anything to hide.

Really can't wait to see all the improvements and get behind the controls on this route. I've had West Somerset since it's original release in 2018 so I'm glad this routes is finally getting some much needed TLC

Just do something with the BR Class 33 maybe?

I have never liked the real Cromptons, but it's very sad that DTG added the Class 33 locomotive DLC for this route, and have now forgotten that it even exists.

Was just watching one of the videos on his website and if I heard him correctly he mentioned that Rivet were the primary developers on Glossop line. Strange that this was never mentioned when it released.

I recall it being mentioned on the forums and in streams a few times. They did a nice job to be fair!

The two tone green 47 on the WSR is very quiet, must of been fitted with extra noise emissions silencer.
I ran the blue 47 from the trans Pennine dlc on the part of the WSR, the blue 47 sounds noisier more authentic.

I did notice some supernatural activity at Blue Anchor today. I've heard mention of a phantom train at Watchet station, perhaps this activity is spreading to other stations. The imminent update to the route, might be unsettling some purist GWR staff from the steam era.

Had the same issue caused by the Mk1's boarding splines. Should be fixed in this update.

It's still made by dtg. Rivet probably helped with scenery or stations, but dtg are the main devs so dtg would have to update it. It's not uncommon to set devs working together

Using scenario planner with PS4, I drove the Jubilee from Minehead to Bish Lyd non stop with 10 mk1s coaches. I mostly ignored the speed limits. It would be good to add a few more coaches to test out your driving skills. It's a good line for thrash with it's steep long gradients.

I hope the new update for the WSR hasn't made the locos too quiet in cab. Although I'm much more likely to use the steam timetable from now on.

I wouldn't say they're too quiet in-cab, I think I actually turned some stuff up so I was able to make better use of some muffling filters instead.

OK I will check the sounds out soon.
I suppose there's a balance of capturing the loco exhaust, and ambient onboard sounds without making them too standout.

I did quite a bit of audio recording years back for personal use, lineside and onboard heritage and mainline with analogue equipment. This was using a Sony walkman pro., only ever recorded steam though. ;)

Oh cool! Yeah there's definitely a balance to be made, it's a hard battle finding the sweet-spot between sounding nice and being realistic. (Steam safety valves being a classic example of this).

WSR is the only heritage line in TSW at 20miles, slightly longer than SVR which I would also love in TSW. Can wait to see all the improvements to WSR next week and a big thank you to everyone at DTG for updating this wonderful and lovely route.

That would be a big thank you to Liam as he is doing the update in his spare time as a labour of love, this isn't an official DTG Update in the normal sense.

One Question, is one of the Steam DLC required to unlock the new Timetable, if so which one of the Three? Because so far I only own Spirit of Steam.

    Edit:Wording

The new timetable uses the Peak Forest DLC for the steam services, with the Flying Scotsman pack adding a couple more steam services.

Had a short drive of the 101 earlier, and past the Crompton in the other platform. When the 33 departed it sounded it's horn, is this a new feature? I hadn't noticed the AI departures sounding horns.

Not part of this update, although AI whistle boards will be added to the route which will trigger the AI to sound the horn if they pass between the hours of 07:00 - 23:00. This will only work for trains that support the AI whistle function (Flying Scotsman, BR 628.2, WSR locos and Peak Forest locos)

Some br blue dlc like northern trans penine I believe had scripted horns just before moving. Not all the br blue content got it and it never became a standard feature

I am sorry if I asked this question but I cannot seem to find a trace of me asking it so here I go...

I am just wondering the reasoning behind using the 150 for the shuttle rather than a 166. The only thing I can think of is that in real life the 150s are cleared for the line but 166s aren't.

As I say good on all involved in doing this and I am really looking forward to this coming out!

The 150 was used to represent the real life Taunton Shuttle service between Taunton and the West Somerset Railway, which used a GWR Class 150.

Yes it was the 33 that sounded it's horn. Never heard that before.
