In the game, I prefer modern day as well. I love heritage steam railways in real life but not really excited for it in TSW.
I myself tend to go towards modern as well, I certainly do not mind certain era's/heritage railways either.
For American rail: 1970's and 1980's. For UK rail: pre- privatization. For German rail: pre- electrification.
Nice. So basically SP/D&RGW, ATSF, BN and (maybe) Western pacific on the west coast and Conrail, Chessie System/Chesapeake & Ohio in the east and... that's about as much as I know lol.
Originally, my interest was solely UK steam locomotives of any era. Be it The Big Four, BR or Preservation. I just love the sight, smells and sound of them. Eventually I came to develop an interest in some of the BR diesels such as Gronks and the Class 20s. Thanks to TSW, my interest has gone into hyperdrive! I'm now interested in all things rail related. I now have an appreciation of international rail and modern rolling stock, my favourite being the 395 'Javelin' such a cool looking train However, despite my now ever-expanding tastes. UK Steam will always be my absolute favourite!
For real trains, I love historic stuff. For simulation I prefer modern. If I’m going to drive a train in TSW, I like routes that I can actually travel on. Whereas if I’m going to watch a film or read a book, I’d much rather read about history.
For me it would late 90s to early 2000s for real trains (as that's what I grew up with) but as far as simulation goes, I like almost any era.
Yeah, wish I could of seen railroading back in the day with all the Class 1's still operating, the 90's pretty much made the east and west coast a duopoly, with Santa Fe and BN becoming BNSF, UP taking over CNW and SP, and Conrail getting split between CSX and NS.
I would like to see one fully conceptual DLC. S-F. Non-existent trains, in non-existent realities. I'm completely honest now. There is no such thing. I'm not talking about total fantasy, it could have strong connections with our idea of this form of transport (the tracks stay), but I'd like to see something like that. For example, the early phase of the colonization of Moon or Mars.
That sound pretty cool. I'm imagining the monorail trains from Total Recall or "The Expanse". The only problem with this is that if you want to be realistic, any train on a Mars colony would be self-driving. But that's where the fiction comes in. Going the "other way" in time you could have some kind of steampunk railway in a retro-futuristic setting. Sort of like the machines that the dwarves use in The Elder Scrolls or even more in World of Warcraft/Warcraft.
I have always been fascinated by the railways created in the novels of the Compagnie des Glaces, on which a series of comic books was created. The atmosphere is similar to the train in Snowpiercer, only in the novels there are way more trains and tracks. It would be fantastic to be able to drive trains from this world in TSW.
US: early diesel, 1940s-60s Germany: pre-DBAG, especially Epoch III/IV (1960s-70s) Britain: no real opinion, although I would love to see the pre-war, pre-BR "Big Four" era with express steam.
