I just checked my email and was surprised to see it and a pre-order option in the email but when I click on it nothing for the route shows up. And I checked on Steam there is nothing there under TSW2020 for this route.

No, but the article is up now (link in the articles section).
It isn't released for a while so no rush on buying it I guess.

So, what’s the route length in miles?

So Maik Goltz what is it like to work on the editor for TSW? Or did you sign a non disclosure form so that all news is kept quiet?

Not to stir up trouble but if people aren’t happy with another Northern Germany route, why not, not buy it so it brings about a change, people often complain but for 24.99 - what does this do that we haven’t got already?

    That’s.. disappointing.

At least we now know DTG’s sweet spot in regards to length is 20/30 miles. Boy we’re so lucky to drive that far, I mean, why would anyone want to drive for longer and further, that’s just madness.

But if it makes them money then we can moan all we like, it won’t change. This is another DLC I’m not buying as it doesn’t tick any boxes for me. I’ll wait for the next UK route to be disappointed no doubt.

I'm sure they won't want the buyers of RRO to feel completely ripped off having to buy the same train twice, so presumably the 422 will be this one to mix things up a bit, yes?...

    1024px-DB_422_045_S-Bahn_Rhein-Ruhr_Dortmund_Hbf_1803110938.jpg

This seems promising and if the yards and port are accessible for the freight services, then this could finally pave the way for that diesel shunter everybody's been waiting for since RSN. I hope DTG have taken on board the feedback from previous routes. All complaints aside, I think we all have high expectations and I'm interested to see what Maik can bring to the table.

Is the 425, just a slightly squarer version of the 422, or is there a significant operational difference that I'm not seeing (other than more windows and less doors)?

I'm no expert, but I believe it has a different interior layout that's better suited to regional trains and weighs a bit less. The cab is also much different - you can see this in the screenshots on the article.

The 425 will be used as RE services, the 422 for S-Bahn services.

28 miles - seriously guys? Are we actually serious? That’s North London to Croydon by bus. Can I ask a really serious question? Why are DTG so certain on these short routes that get boring after a week for 24.99!!!!

To divert, many people complained about Metropole Rhur for OMSI but that has 25 routes for 24.99. But in all seriousness why are we buying the short thrift?

With RRO, then length wasn't as much of an issue as people make out because the 422 service stop so frequently that an end-to-end run takes the best part of an hour. From my own perspective, I sometime like just doing one of the RE service which takes 20-30 minutes to fill a bit of time, but I guess a lot of people want to get their teeth into a couple of hours of play time. Not sure how that's going to play out here - even if they go as far as the big yard in Bochum-Langendreer to make the most of the freight/switching opportunities in future (which they probably won't), the S1 takes 42 minutes which is getting on a par with RRO. To Bochum Hbf, the RE11 is 27 mins, the RE6 is 25 mins, The S1 is 35 mins over 11 stops. If that's the longest passenger service, I suspect there may be complaints!

There’s already a few disheartened souls, I get it, you can’t please everyone but still. It’s so short without the possibility of an extension because of some UE4 technicality called cooking (a file compression system)

An hour is fine for the first time but after a week or so, it gets a bit much.

Isn't it that the end user can't alter the route but DTG should surely be able to extend their own routes as they'll have all the uncooked/uncompressed etc. files

I don't mind short routes for now, as long as they deffo get extended in the near future!

I'm dreading to think how short the next UK release is going to be, Chester-Crewe? Birmingham-Wolverhampton?, Liverpool-Runcorn?

They must have a longer route in mind for the UK but no doubt the next one will be around the 20-30 mile length. Seems to be the “go to” distance recently.

Asking for DTG to extend a route and then not charge for it is rather counterintuitive to their entire business strategy thus far. Would make customers loyal, but they won't do it.

I doubt anyone (or very few) would expect DTG not to charge for an extension! I would certainly be happy to pay for route extensions, just as I do for loco/stock DLC.

Yes. I don't think the "cooking" is the issue which prevents them extending the route. I think it's related to how existing services would be handled. See THIS POST for my understanding of it, including an example of how it could be solved.

Indeed. It would be highly unlikely that DTG would produce the extension for free. However, if the DLC were planned correctly, and extensions were possible in the way that I have suggested, the Loco DLCs could also contain their relevant extensions, which would make the route more varied and desirable, and potentially increase sales.

In my Birmingham Cross City example, the base "Route" DLC would contain the EMUs on the shortest version of the route, like a Brummie RRO. You could then pay again to get the "Train" DLC with the DMU on the stretch of route which extends further south to Worcester (after the overhead lines finish and none of the original EMU services travel). You could then pay once more for the CrossCountry "Train" DLC pack which extends the route to Cheltenham/Bristol with the Voyager. Since you've already covered the cost of developing the intense city areas with the Route DLC, and the people paying for the Worcester stretch have funded development as far as Droitwich, it's mainly the rolling countryside greenery south of there that you need to pay for with the third pack earnings, and I'm sure that a decent length Voyager route with some high speed running would be an easy sell. You would maybe have to include the tiles shared by all of the routes (as far as Droitwich) in the base pack in case someone bought the Voyagers, but not the DMUs, but that's hardly the end of the world.

Even if you just loved playing the EMU services, buying the add-on packs would bring AI instances of the Voyagers and DMUs into your gameplay, making things more interesting.

I'm not asking they extend routes for free, of course I expect to pay and gladly will, what I'm saying is if they did routes in stages (using Creative Rail's East Coast 3 phases as an example) I'd be happy with that, as long as they stick to the same era of course. I would love to see NTP extended to Liverpool with a set of mk2f and a Deltic included, I'd happily pay more than £25 for that!!

Already had that on TS1, except they called it Trains vs Zombies. :D

    Edit: Actually had some ideas:

"Switch out this boxcar full of toilet paper for a desperate store, try not to get mobbed."
"Break thru the quarantine by avoiding all intermediate station stops."

Something "incomplete" around London like St. Pancras to St. Albans, London Victoria to Bromley/Swanley or Euston to Watford.

Edit: Oh sorry, I meant "captivating", "packed" and "bustling", not incomplete. Duh!

I hope that was a sarcastic suggestion. Couldn’t think of anything more boring with shuttling from A to B all day.

I’m going to take a wild guess and say we’ll get something like Doncaster to York, with all yards included.

Seems the Dev teams are working from home, so hopefully that means the quality of the products to come will be slightly better and the bugs that are persistent get fixed, you know when you’re in comfortable surroundings how things work better than a sterile office.

So I see it as a positive; it’ll probably slow down the flywheel and they’ll actually work fully on something as valuable time is not wasted travelling to work

While it may slow things down on the tsw dlc front, should be the least of our worries. Need to take care of each other (from a safe distance :D) and take it day to day. Stay safe guys, especially to our friends in Italy

Every time a UK route is on the horizon, I have hope it’ll be one of my “dream routes” and every time I’ve been incorrect. This time I’m guessing it’ll be something I don’t want.

What's the UK thing we all want least? Another 25mph heritage route without steam trains and without the ability to use the trains we already have?

Nah, you'll get the Birmingham Cross-City Line North, from Birmingham to Litchfield, thereby stymying the chances of ever getting the Cross-City Line South to Bromsgrove, and the Cross Country route onwards to Cheltenham.

How do you know what people want? I bet if you asked 50 people on here you would get 40 different answers!

Why would DTG deliberately make a route which didn't seem popular, that would be a baffling piece of decision making?!

Maybe they are more in touch with what people want than people realise, they probably get lots of suggestions, much of them not from here.
