Question Thread - Roadmap Stream, 5th July

• Now that xbox sound and PS5 DLC limit are being fixed, what will be the next "major overhaul focus" for the game? Suggestions would include passenger dynamics (ie falling off the platform, platform density, interactivity and dioramas)
• What are some of the "non train related" focusses of the developers, maybe including lighting, trackside scenery improvements, differing texture levels for different platforms (noting LondonMidlands recent GWE work)
• Is there any progress on the dynamic dispatcher for BKL and would this allow for any other flexibility in the timetables such as delays or diversions to be built in?
• Is there going to be a "three way bundle" for 2023 as Rush Hour was for 2022... Don't need details per se and hasn't been announced and probably won't be now, but thought I'd ask anyway

 

My "broad" questions

• Is there going to be some significant focus on a more robust timetable and dispatcher, to allow for example random events, or to more easily modify train performance without risking to break the timetable?
• Will there be a definite switch to real timings? They make such a big difference on the timetables that have them - thanks Joe
• Will advertisement be restricted to the 3 base routes?

More "niche" questions

• With hindsight, do you think your rolling stock choice was correct between now and rush hour? I guess a lot of work went into steam but in terms of modern rolling stock the situation has been pretty dire, with the only notable exceptions being the BR612 and Class 314 and 313. Not even Harlem introduced any new stock.
• Given that Adam's update missed it, are there any plans to port the new german freight physics over to older routes (like MSB and RSN)? At least making the BR185.5 and BR185.6 substitute for all the DB BR185.2
• Any plans to make the BRD BR143 sub in DCZ? As of now the BRD BR143 got small updates and bug fixed that make it better than the DCZ one.

 

I’d like to know why I can’t see all of my train behind me on Sherman Hill on PS5. Why does it take so much processing power to render the distant wagons when they are only a handful of pixels on the screen compared to closer assets to the point where it can’t be done? Can this be addressed so the long trains can be seen snaking off into the distance.

 

I'm generally interested in status of further fixes to SoS for example has any progress been made on the following:

1) Lack of sound and exhaust effects on most AI loco's
2) lack of blood a custard coaches in formations
3) Lack of custom liveries on rolling stock in timetable mode.
4) And any status updates on manual firing features

all other questions are very much going to be related to the current state of the game and whats beeing worked on currently.

 

• I know there is nothing on the roadmap for sure, but what's the state of DTG-loco-DLCs? We haven't had them for a very long time and more variety in locos makes the game interesting for me. Can we expect loco DLCs to appear in the roadmap again or has this concept been sent over to 3rd parties?
• Speaking of thrid party: It's been more than half of a year when JT announced their involvement in TSW2. How is the cooperation going on? Can we expect to hear anything substantial from JT in this year?
• And talking about another 3rd party: While I won't ask for "when is it ready?", i'd rather just ask: How far in the development process is the BR 420? We got some insights like 2 months ago but nothing since then. How is it going on on that front?
• Speaking of another loco - the BR 155 from RSN. Will it get an overhaul by Adams team? And especially: Will it become compatible with LD?
• Another more broadly question: German rolling stock didn't grow bigger for a long time now, apart from the 612. We've got the same few regional and freight locos (146/185 and 143/112) for a very long time, always being reused. Also the passenger coaches: We only have the "famous" Dostos (apart from the multiple unit trains) and no new freight cars since the BR 363 DLC, which is nearly one year ago. Is that a known fact at DTG, that there is a big lack of and desire for new and other german rolling stock by the community?
• Are there more 3rd party devs in talk with DTG, who want to develop for TSW?

Can you tell us about the fixes you have in mind during the extended down time? Will you be seeking community engagement whilst working on such fixes?

 

There`s still a couple of unobtainable trophies on playstation.
One being the dresden commuter trophy for driving the DB BR143 for 143KM on Riesa-Dresden, will this be fixed as its been broken a long time?

 

l hope we have some new routes and Locos Released this summer

 

Are there any plans for a big core update this year like with the rush hour update last year?

Has there been any progress made with the Livery designer 2.0 and Scenario planner 2.0?

Is the derail issue on Sand Patch and other routes that people have been posting about being looked into? Understand if no ETA for a fix (though that would be cool!), but some confirmation and maybe info on what's been found so far would be nice.

 

1) When is the Livery wipe glitch on Playstation going to be resolved?

2) When is the fix for not being able too upload updated liveries in Creators Club for Playstation going to be resolved?

3) Any news on Playstation DLC limit fix?

4) What are the new US and UK routes that are coming?

5) When are we finally going to get new GWR Routes?

6) When can we have control of what liveries we will like to see show up in game and if we will like all train cars to use the same livery instead of random cars having different liveries. It can be unrealistic sometimes.

7) Will Railfans be added to other existing routes?

Hi Couple of things from me London commuter GWE needs a relook at as when their is southern service sitting on platform 1 going to Trowbridge you can’t enter the platform when you are taking control of GWE I’m playing on XBOX X series.

the other point from me is I love the updated GWE route it’s much better then TSW 1! I love that you’ve added the PIS and the extra over head wires but not the full length of the route, but is their any chance that you could add BR class 800?

My question is

What is the progress of Just Trains after their Christmas announcement regarding joining TSW2?

 

Will you be putting resources to address minor user interface and user experience issues? Examples (not asking about these specifically, but describing the type of things I am asking about):

• Using livery selection to control train-length
• Multiple variations of the same trains with no identifier to distinguish them. (And no way for a casual user to know why there are multiples -- we learned about it on the forum and stream)
• Sorting of locos in timetable mode -- this seems to be based on release date so that the random railfan diesel services show up before the EMUs that came with that specific route.
• Sorting and filtering of routes on the main menu -- seems arbitrary and limited. Why not order them by country, most-played, etc, rather than release date? Why not add filters by country, route type (passenger, freight, both), power type, or era? (Seems like all you need to do is encode the little letter and number things that you use in the roadmap.)

 

Why is this posted in the suggestions forum, and why do we still not have a cross-platform section of the forum to discuss anything not related to a single platform (and is also not a suggestion)?

 

A second unrelated question:

Have you considered a simple controls mode? My seven-year-old has been waiting for so long for steam engines, but he can't really run them successfully without my help. I would love to let him explore a go/stop type of interface.

 

When/are you guys going to address some of these core issues and make fixes and improvements to them? These are all linked to a thread, with detailed explanations.

1.) Night lighting
2.) Ambient sounds
3.) Improving the overall game experience

None of these threads have had any response from DTG, despite their popularity.

 

Could this Q&A also be written out in the roadmap article, so we don't have to watch a 2 hour stream just to discover our question has not been answered? Streams can be rather time consuming and inefficient if you're looking (hoping) for a specific piece of information.

 

• Is there any chance you can make the buckeyes unlockable on the HST and MK3s?
• Is there a possibility for more fonts to be added to livery designer? British Rail Helvetica would be good

 

Will you improve the game UI? Last year change was a stepback: locos face you so you can't see their liveries; no country filter; no preview of the locos/wagons in the scenario/livery editors... etc.

 

When the game got updated from TSW 2020 to TSW 2 almost two years ago, a lot of sounds of both locos and wagons got broken. Especially on the German stock.

• Most of the rolling sounds disappeared from in the cab, both from rolling along the track and also when passing over switches
• The sound from passing freight trains fade out and in when you for example stand on a platform
• The old 146/185 sound set, where the traction motor fan sound don't play until you switch the MCB off and then back on again

With the update to 4.26 last summer a new batch of sounds, mainly SIFA, PZB and the AWS-buzzer, broke. For some reason, many now have a "cut" in them.

• Are there any plans of putting these sounds right again?

I'm not asking for new sound sets, but a rebalancing of the existing ones to make them sound more like they did in TSW 2020.

 

Now that the jackhammer sound issue has been sorted on xbox can the badly looping sounds on Playstation be looked at? There have been many examples reported on the tech reports forum and many are still outstanding. The AWS warning sound is broken in this way on many trains, all of which have been reported.

When will the partially fitted freight trains on SOS be fixed so the wagons are in the correct order for the brakes to work properly? It was going to be fixed quickly I thought?

Can we have more realistic timetables please? SOS and Dresden Chemnitz have been identified as having near unachievable stopping service timetables because they have been created by ai or other such method that is not realistic. Quite a big immersion breaker.

Is it possible to have the locos and rolling stock interact with the track better? For example the track appears to be rendered completely flat but depending on the route the rolling stock behaves like the track is not flat. The track needs to be rendered so it is not completely flat and the rolling stocks wheels/suspension needs to move up and down with the track. I know the whole bogies do move to a certain extent but the suspension is not modelled. Thanks.

 

Just one: what, in concrete terms, are DTG doing to overhaul their QA system, which up to now has been not fit for purpose? The state in which DLC is being released is unsatisfactory and ought to be embarrassing.

 

Is there any possibility of acquiring licenses for large railcar lessor companies like GATX, TTX (which would include Railbox and Railgon), Wells Fargo, Trinity, etc.?
And what about smaller Class II or III shortlines? Those smaller railroads would be a brilliant opportunity for a route DLC, especially since quite a few Class IIIs operate on less than 50 route miles. Maybe a "shortline bundle" priced as a full route would be a possibility, including various "last/first-mile" railroads, like the Ballard Terminal Railroad, for example. The Ballard Terminal operates only about 5 route miles. They interchange with BNSF to switch cement hoppers for Salmon Bay Sand and Gravel. A bundle of these routes would be awesome for those who would like to operate older power, as most Class IIIs operate old (sometimes pre-WWII!) locomotives like EMD/GE switchers.

 

Any news about the east coast way getting the new class 377 which is on the on London commuter and also so when will when will southeastern high speed get the rush hour passengers and also so when will we see the the class 800 in tsw2 these are my questions I hope they get answered

 

I'll take the liberty to translate this:

• Will there ever be the possibility of creating custom formations in the scenario designer, the lack of variety is boring.
• Will there ever be the possibility of player-controlled electric switches (points) without the path being forced by the game?
• Will we ever see a german DLC with a primary focus on freight, with some yards and new freight wagons instead of only having passenger routes?

 

My first question: When will the BR187DB locomotive fix be released? My second question: When will the LZB be fully functional for BR146.2, BR185 2, BR185.5Mrce locomotives?

 

With many mentions of the map from the community and some subtle mods to the map from DTG where is this now at?

Anything to come on the (road)map?

When we are regularly told DTG listen to the community as part of their route selection why have the two (im led to believe ) most commonly asked for routes not on the horizon as far as we know - ECML and WCML

Matt had a really interesting dialect a few months back about route extensions mot modular routes, what's changed since then, are we a step forward?

I hope it’s the MBta Worcester line with the Hsp46 locomotive and the bilevel coach’s.

 

Which routes are earmarked for a new timetable? These can make a huge difference to a route and really bring it back to life, as was proven by rapid transit. HRR and GWE would both benefit massively from this. More AI stock can make the world of difference too, most obvious I think when you compare between the levels of traffic at Dresden Hbf on the two routes it features in.

 

So I've asked this before, but what would the likley hood of the Portsmouth direct line making it to tsw2?

"We'd love to make all routes, but if it's not on the roadmap, there's currently no plans "

 

Here are my three questions:

• Now that e.g. HRR and RSN got the preservation updates, I would love to know something: Is it possible to substitute the Br185.5 and Br182 (both MRCE) to all the other routes like MSB, HRR, RSN, RRO and especially SKA? I think the Br185.5 from BRD is one of the best locos ever made for TSW and it’s a shame that we can’t use it everywhere…
• Are there any informations on the new German route?
• Might it be possible to take a look at the livery possibilities for spawning? The Br143 has almost always got a livery, but the Br185.5 and Br101 almost never… Would be very nice to put the probability up

Recently there was an update in which the preservation crew worked on the db br 425. This update did not fix the sifa problem with the 425. The yellow exclamation mark still doesn’t show up on the HUD. This problem has been known since the 425 came out and was reported numerous times on the forums. You claim that you read everything in the technical reports forum. So I do not understand how this bug was overlooked in the recent big update.
