Studio sales make me think the content they provide isn't that popular, nor requested by the community. Japan and China come to mind, and the previous HIS sale with recently released routes etc could well indicate HIS' products aren't that popular either.
There certainly seems to be a glut of these sales at the moment, albeit the only UW item I don't own is the Monorail one, which doesn't really appeal.
Or it could be that it's just a case of the Summer doldrums and the company is just trying to stimulate some volume. Cup half full or half empty, not necessarily anything to do with how popular a particular item is or isn't.
Japan and China seem like fairly niche areas of interest, but the High Iron items seem to be pretty popular, although there are a small number of disproportionately loud voices who appear to have a borderline irrational personal grudge against them. I'm inclined to go with buzz4567's analysis.
Whatever the reason certainly welcome. Just wish I’d picked up FRCE in the HIS sale, if I’d known the C424 was coming out. I’m sure it will come round again soon!
I don't have much enhancement DLC, so looking to buy the track and vegetation packs. Do they make a big difference ?
Not noticed a huge difference but l bought them. Worth the price in a sale. Waiting for MML Bedford pack not in sale so will wait for the Xmas or Easter sale for that. The only AP product l haven’t bought yet, but happy to wait as l play more TSW these days.
They do, depending on whether the route you are using actually uses them or not. There are patches to add the track ep to some routes that don't use it. Not aware of any patches for the veg pack though, but it supports a fair amount of routes. The changes from the track pack can be quite dramatic though.
These are the original routes enhanced in the track pack from the manual. French, German as well as British. Not every route has been touched up, but, in a sale I think it's worth obtaining. Unsure if any modern routes have been reviewed. • BMG Welsh Marches Line: Newport to Shrewsbury • DTG Birmingham Cross City Line: Lichfield - Bromsgrove & Redditch • DTG Chatham Main Line: London - Gillingham • DTG Chatham Main & Medway Valley Lines • DTG Chatham Main Line: London - Dover & Ramsgate • DTG East Coast Main Line: London - Peterborough • DTG Fife Circle Line: Edinburgh - Dunfermline • DTG Great Eastern Main Line: London - Ipswich • DTG Hamburg - Hanover • DTG Huddersfield Line: Manchester - Leeds • DTG LGV: Marseille - Avignon • DTG Liverpool - Manchester • DTG London - Brighton • DTG London - Faversham High Speed • DTG Midland Main Line: London - Bedford • DTG Mittenwaldbahn: Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Innsbruck • DTG Munich - Augsburg • DTG Munich - Garmisch-Partenkirchen • DTG North London Line • DTG North London & Goblin Lines • DTG North Wales Coast Line: Crewe - Holyhead • DTG Portsmouth Direct Line: London Waterloo - Portsmouth • DTG Riviera Line: Exeter - Paignton • DTG Semmeringbahn: Mürzzuschlag to Gloggnitz • DTG Settle - Carlisle • DTG South London Network • DTG South Wales Coastal: Bristol - Swansea • DTG South Western Main Line: Southampton - Bournemouth • DTG WCML South: London Euston - Birmingham • DTG West Coast Main Line North • DTG West Coast Main Line Over Shap • DTG West Rhine: Köln - Koblenz • Just Trains Bristol - Exeter • Rivet Games Suburban Glasgow Northwest: Springburn - Helensburgh • Steam Workshop South London to Brighton
The TrackEP replaces the tracks with the licensed Konstanz-Villingen tracks from VirtualRailroads. It repaints terrain tiles to adapt to the trackbed. Note that it is the only thing from AP that does need some afterwork, because you'll get floating AWS ramps or TPWS grids needing you to raise the tracks using TSTools. Also, imho, it takes away some variety from routes combining tracks with different sleepers and trackbed. Choose for yourself. I have uninstalled it, after checking GoogleEarth I found the dark trackbed isn't fitting many of the routes IRL.
AFAIK, the Track Enhancement Pack's draws from continental Europe shapes and textures, possibly DB-tracks. The widely used in Britain 'pandrol' clips aren't modeled. https://www.pandrol.com/product/pr-clip/ Almost indentical results on mainline tracks can be achieved by swapping textures from a few German routes. Nevertheless, it is a welcome and useful pack. To me, the greatest visual differences are made by the Signals Enhancement Pack and the Sky and Weather Patterns Pack, amended by the Clouds Pack and the different Time of Day settings. Some require a bit of tinkering, but provide for very nice, truely 'atmospheric' visuals on well detailed routes.
For me the reason I keep the Track EP is because of the sound enhancements, most notably the improved (from the very dreadful) track "warble".
Indeed, they replaced some superfluous Kuju trackbed sounds (that are provided by the locos themselves) with empty sound files, and improved the Tunnel/Bridge Reverb. I have kept the respective Audio\RailNetwork folders from the TrackEP only, but reverted to default visuals just for variety as I don't think the german tracks do fit everywhere. (And when driving, I don't really care if the sleepers are true 3D) And if you check München-Garmisch, it has very bright alpine grey/white gravel irl that the TrackEp replaces with dull dark brown.
Interesting, might see what I need to remove to see which I prefer, I think the Track EP was my 2nd or 3rd purchase so I've had it so long now I couldn't imagine what vanilla tracks look like, though I do have a vanilla install so I might have a nosey about.
Should be using München-Garmisch Deluxe anyway. It was the first route remaster by the german community way back... but it´s definitly better than the vanilla route.
Wow so much information. Thanks. Splashed out and bought the track pack, vegetation pack and the sky and weather pack. have installed the track pack and using WCML over Shap can see the track junctions that showed up initially as dark then as you approached them blended in to the track, don't stand out any more. Wasn't aware that the track in the pack was based on German track. My era is UK 60s to 80s so a mixture of wood sleepers and early concrete. Didn't know that the pandrol clip isn't modelled in the pack. I will probably only be playing on the North of England routes, so will try these routes out and see how it goes. If I do decide I don't like the enhancements how easy is it to uninstall ?
Precision Locomotive Developments (Bossman Games). Have an end of summer sale. 30% off with code SUMMER-30 until 1st September.
On their site only until 15th September: https://www.rsslo.com/ A few routes and locos 50% off, rather more 30% off, most about 15% off.
It feels lazy and uninspired. Doesn’t look nice or fun to me either when so many details of the “art” is messed up since an AI generated it since someone wrote some text into a program. Lots of the text is garbled and many of the art and background details do not make sense at all blending together in absurdly strange and unnatural ways. Like I said the whole thing comes off as lazy. I have no issue with the style itself they were going for; Art Deco-ish is a wonderful style and one of my favourites. It and other styles have been executed very well for promotional images. It’s just no good when a computer tries to haphazardly put together sloppy artwork when a perfectly talented human artist could be putting this together instead. The idea is nice but the execution isn’t. Admittedly I am probably overreacting and I apologise; but I’ve always been very against the AI image generated art craze since it’s so uninspired and takes away the specialties of real human produced art; even if it would just be for a sale promo… I’m just pretty ticked to see such a practice come to the TSC hobby and I reallyyyyy hope other developers don’t follow suit just to save some quick money.
It's just a temporary sale poster that will be thrown away in a week. a) it works. b) life is too short to worry about such things.
You have a point; in the grand scheme of things it is a small complaint. An overreaction on my part but this is how I feel about this sorta stuff. Anyway I don’t wish to derail the thread topic so I think that’s all I’ll say on the matter.

Picked up the TFW North Wales coastal in the Steam sale so proves this thread works. Drove an Avanti 805 from Hollyhead to Bangor in QD … for a modern route it was pretty poor and very boring. Hope the route gets more interesting from Bangor to Crewe!
Since it was modernised quite a few years ago Holyhead to Crewe is boring in real life - a basic two track line. It was better when it had Semaphore Signalling on the main line
yes... North Wales Coast is kind of boring. I always wondered why it got so much praise in the community.
