They're probably not saying anything because they want to keep it secret. But we all know how that turns out.
It's the same every year it all goes quiet. 'Fixes'are bing worked on and then wham. New version or group of routes. Its a well trodden path now and seems to be a business plan. Also no denials at all being heard....
Precisely. But if it wasn’t a thing, you would expect Matt, JD or Alex would have popped something in here by now and sent a cease and desist request to the site(s) which are saying it’s a thing…
EA FC 24 release date got leaked by the same guy and multiple sources said the same- Might be a bit of truth behind this.
I'm very relaxed about this, having refused to update to TSW3 for quite some time - even sticking with TSW2020 as I found the HUD somewhat more professionally designed (and hated the red yellow blue stripes on the TSW2 HUD). Then I thought what the heck, let's just see it (as I could at any time uninstall it and continue on TSW2 - that's the advantage of it being a different game and having different Steam AppIDs.) Still have a small TSW2020 installation only featuring SPG, NEC and the GP40-2. Yes, it broke some stuff (but also fixed other issues), but for me when I put it into relation, I can live with 20 out of 3000 services (just guessing) not working tbh. TSC taught me to And gladly I do not need medals or achievements to enjoy the driving experience. And timetables are everything but trivial - it's a real life job creating these. Deadlocks happen in Zusi3 (much more complex timetables including random factors like delays and dynamically rerouting) too, but you can selectively remove AI in case a deadlock happens. (Two trains facing each other, claiming the same block) Though I have been in the past, replaying scenarios over and over to get the Gold star, until I realized how pointless it was, causing more frustration than enjoyment. So I changed my attitude, enjoying TSC/TSW more than ever. If an upgrade came, it would likely be with a route bundle so I consider the core update to be free. You may disagree. I hope for better lighting (especially CJP, where everything outside is much too bright in cabview), and maybe seat/camera/fov customizability. OldVern Shoved a few more credits into my Steam wallet too
Dovetail has had this business model since they were conceived 15+ years ago. maximum profit. This shouldn’t be surprising anyone.
It doesn't at all. It's just common. I was a player of EA's NHL series from 1992 until 2001, buying each annual release. Eventually I stopped and saw I can still enjoy playing an NHL'94 match (or MicroMachines 2 Turbo Turns map, that really made us ROFL) on a Sega emulator against my brother... hasn't lost its power that game
Exactly I still enjoy some of the older PS titles even though some of them have been out over 10 years.
Every few years I'm replaying the original Silent Hill on PS1 emulator. The fact that the PS1 had very little texture RAM and no filtering at all (but the best assortment of games imho - and Gran Turismo on the PS1 was a technical miracle), and you see the blocky textures disturbingly moving a little all the time as if they were trembling, adds to the experience for me - because it is exactly what you don't see and what your fantasy is making of the obscure graphics is what causes horror (Doom 3 was boring. Great technology and models - but just too much in-your-face.). I enjoy a lot of indie LoFi horror games - and hell do they work for me. Search for the game "Hide" for example. Pixel horror, only the basic stuff you need to trigger your most basic fears. Btw, I'm using the pSX1.13 emulator (works since my Windows Me days) - it is small, doesn't need any plugins, has a debugger (you can cheat with) and the output is 1:1 vanilla, with optional bilinear filtering to replicate the TV experience. ePSXe cannot get the original dithering right which is important for SH1. Sorry for going Off Topic, but I thought it might be okay as it is a non-factual speculation thread anyway Anyone remember this one? https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/baseless-speculation-thread.12279/
What is interesting about it ? Normal requirements for studio which is creating games and not only focusing on TSW/TSC stuff. Well yeah... nothing related to TSW as they are releasing their own games too and working with some other game studios too... their first UE game was that Lawn mowing simulator. Its to early for DTG to port TSW to UE5, that require much more work then switching between 4.23 and 4.26. I will count on UE5 with TSW 5 They are already using some stuff from UE5 in TSW 3. So again mixing engines like TSW 2020 which was mixed with 4.16,4.17,4.18,4.19 and then it was difficult to update to 4.23
That was already up there since at least around the release of TSW3. Also even though Rivet is also looking for 3D artists with UE4/5 experience to work on train simulator content since May 2022, yet TSW3 is running on UE4.
I think we'll start to see some official hints about TSW4 after the Class 700 releases on Tuesday. Once that passes there's only "german loco" on the DTG portion of the roadmap.
This is all great speculation! My guess is that we are getting TSW4, but what "evidence" is there besides the purported leaks? 1) Upon release of TSW3, all DLC were rebranded as simply TSW compatible, suggesting more numerical iterations. 2) After the release of TSW3, some people complained that now we would have to wait for TSW4 for whatever fix was being referenced. This was met with a little more pushback than normal for these forums. Perhaps a little too close to the mark? 3) NYT timetable is reportedly updated, but waiting for dispatcher improvements. Such work seems like it would be released with a new edition of TSW. It is more than just getting a new DLC. This may dovetail, if you will, with other signalling work that is supposedly going on right now. 4) TSW3 is apparently leaving Game Pass If there is to be a TSW4, I wouldn't expect too much. No revamped passengers. No fix to the medal system. No toggle for layers. No changes or improvements to the lighting that was introduced in TSW3. No multiplayer. No upgrade to UE5. All of these things have either been explicitly denied by DTG for the present time, or don't seem feasible in the current environment. So now the fun part. What could DTG use to entice us to buy another version, especially because this would introduce the player base to yearly edition upgrades? Two things that I think would move the needle, that also haven't been recently denied to my knowledge, are a dynamic dispatcher with random events, and/or a route editor. Whatever happens, I look forward to following this thread until more comes to light!
Great post and agree. I would add that maybe they will implement PIS announcements with the newer routes
well i know route editor is done. but i want more things to scenario editor like pick up and drop off and stuff. but if dtg can't make that happen then tsw series is finished and is nothing more then dlc factory.
If a TSW4 doesn't come with a Scenario Planner & Livery Designer 2.0 I'll be very disappointed. The iterations of both we have now came along with the release of TSW2 which was released in August 2020. Then in 2021, 'Scenario Planner 2.0' and 'Livery Designer 2.0' were added to the roadmap. Sam, aka DTG Protagonist, aka Colonel Failure, often talked on the streams about how important he felt it was that 2.0 versions of them were for the game. But then a few months later they were taken off the roadmap which was obviously very disappointing and nothing has really been heard since. As things stand, the scenario planner in particular is way too limited. The 700 not being layered onto BML would not be the end of the world for example, if we had a decent scenario designer but we don't. Just a point A to point B with a maximum of 20 trains and not even programmable stop times. The community can make fantastic content, as is seen by what is achieved by the tools currently available and the reskins and scenarios available for TS Classic. But as things stand, it's being massively hampered in TSW.
Regardless of any new features etc, if TSW 4 came the only main thing I worry about is hoping all our existing collection of content continues to remain compatible so we can still have lots of busy routes. Much agreed bart2day - scenario planner has so much potential, yet it it's current iteration is very limited and often tedious.
Train Simulator forced paid upgrades since release: 1 Train Sim World forced paid upgrades since release including TSW4: 3; 4 on Xbox Comparing Dovetail's attitude to both games, it is shocking how well they're doing with Train Simulator and how badly they are with TSW. TS has been having a major overhaul which is ongoing and generally very successful. TSW2's major overhaul broke the game entirely on console, and the community has made it abundantly clear they do not like forced paid upgrades for bug fixes. DTG can say they'll bring the bug fixes to TSW3 (and TSW2) but they never will be. I wish DTG had Valve's curse of not being able to count above 2. That way we would have one game that might actually work. I believe the leak because sod's law says everything that can go wrong will go wrong, and the price I would be willing to pay for TSW4 is £7.50 on sale. I paid £20 for TSW3 for some reason. I will not be making the same mistake again.
Pretty sure it says includes train sim world 3 and BCC for 35.99 and that’s is called UK starter pack
Saying tsw was completely broken on consoles is an exaggeration. If it was completely broken, how come players who were on console able to play tsw
I wouldn't mind seeing TSW 4 coming out sooner than anticipated. Now that I played it on PS5 the experience has improved but on Xbox it's a totally broken game. But it really needs a UI overhaul and a HUD redesign. The HUD feels so ancient. Much could be improved in that department and I would pay for it.
Really more discreet. I don't understand why there needs to be a black bar on the top. Also they could make the signalling more intuitive. I would like to play in the unit system that is used in the routes country as everything else on screen is in that unit but it's too hard to understand the imperial system. If the signalling would scale in size relative to the distance it would be much easier to read the signalling aspect in the HUD
I had a dream last night that DTG released a promotional image on their website, featuring a Class 325 in Royal Mail livery (not that they wore any other livery to my knowledge). That would point to a section of the WCML being featured, however in the dream everyone on these forums reckoned it meant the ECML was coming. Maybe the dream was in an alternate universe where mail traffic went from somewhere like Hornsey instead of Willesden. Nevertheless, if DTG did do the WCML the 325 would be a very interesting addition.
Setting aside the TSW4 rumor/leak for a minute, I see people mentioning the lack of roadmap activity as another possible cue. But doesn't that also suggest something along the lines of TSW 3.5/Rush Hour? A two-year cycle seems far more plausible for a game of this size and stature.
