The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority currently owns and operates a set of 25 GP40 passenger diesels known as GP40MCs, used on the MBTA Commuter Rail system. They were originally built by General Motors Diesel as GP40-2LWs for Canadian National in 1973–75. In 1997–98, these units were extensively rebuilt by AMF. Although they have been principally used on the lines from North Station, these locomotives can also be seen commonly on the South Station lines. Currently, the GP40MCs are undergoing an overhaul by the Norfolk Southern Railway, which includes repair and modification to the major propulsion systems and the HEP generators. Since late 2015, the GP40MCs have been mostly replaced by the MPI HSP46, but a handful remain in service The MP36PH-3C has the same EMD 645F3B prime mover as the MP36PH-3S model, but with a separate head-end power generator, a Caterpillar C-27[3] The launch customer for the MP36PH-3C was Caltrain, a commuter railroad in the San Francisco Bay Area. Caltrain ordered 6 of these locomotives in 2003, which were built and delivered that same year. This locomotive has gone on to become the most popular MPXpress variant, with 100 delivered to nine different customers. Locomotives: GP40MAC: Cab-Interior: MP36PH-MBTA: Genset: Cab-Interior:
I wonder if we’ll see the Haverhill,Lowell or rockport lines on TSW 2 anytime soon in the future for the Boston sprinter MBta route.
non rebuilt MC's dont run south and the MP's are out at rebuild. they are not getting overhauled by NS, and the geeps have not been replaced by hsp's. gensets are work only and dont work 99% of the time
MBTA only has 2 MP36’s and they’re from UTA. They’d have to get a completely new horn. They also don’t run on the NEC anymore. Same thing can be said about the geeps that they only run north of Boston.
Those trains are common on the North Side. Seeing one of those on the South Side would be very rare lol
To make her for Boston-Providence locomotive exists as the Caltrain Baby Bullet. Therefore it needs a Reskin from SFJ Caltrain Red and White to MBTA Paint. Furthermore, this can also be bundled with Avelia Liberty and HSP-46 Germany DB BR411 146.0 UK Class 700 455/8 as Rush Hour train Pack. Extra ones For Rush Hour are DR V60 DB BR345/346 Riesa-Dresden MP36 NEC Boston CLass 73 BML
For Avelia Liberty Amtrak just had it at 30th street for a press conference if Gary Dolzall was invited there.
