Read my post above. This could be a solution for consoles. On a powerful PC no reason this game shouldn't run smooth as silk.

Fps cap can change a lot of things! E.g input lag, but many more. In some games I use it and they works much better with it. E.g TSW2 :D Much more stable.

Wow! That shadow draw distance is terrible! People are saying it’s better, what was it like before?!

I suspect its a consequence of the game being on a mechanical disk. I’ve got it on a fast SSD on PC and although i’m getting these microstutters (which did NOT exist in TSW2020) there's nothing like that.

Are you then saying that as of now in terms of stuttering TSW2020 is better!? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff, but can changing to DX12 (as seen on another thread) improve performance here as well?

Autosuggestion can be powerful... shadow draw distance didn't change at all, still ridiculous on console. That's why I always play at night or with cloudy skies :D
I connected a 500 GB SSD to my PS4, but the only improvement I noticed was the loading time...

Dx 12 improves the overall perf and allows to have more fps but core problems like stuttering can not be reduced like that.

I do not appreciate the silence of DTG concerning this topic by the way

There are micro stutters present in TSW2 that did not exist in TSW2020, yes.

These are 2 Koln - Aachen videos of mine. The one in the rain is running on DX11 (but sadly doesn’t have an FPS counter) and the other is DX12. You’ll have to trust me that where you can see DX12 is a constant 60fps (capped by me), when on DX11 it often will drop to the 40fps mark for a period of time, particularly at either end of the route.

    DX11

    DX12

A modern fast GPU is worth putting to the DX12 test. My 1050M died with his boots on :|

That’s on an overclocked 2080 ti and it works really very well. Im also getting a constant 60 fps on Bakerloo where DX11 was dropping into the 30’s around Wembley.

Honestly haven’t a clue. All I could suggest would be to try it. It works for some people but not others - I suspect it depends on the amount of VRAM you have but I’m definitely no expert!

It's got 4GB of VRAM. Really hesitant to do it since it's a laptop...
I also just created a thread for things that will boost performance. Could please put in that thread what you all do to improve performance?

Baffling. And obviously very frustrating to have such high end systems and experience these problems.
The hardware is clearly more than adequate. On the other hand, I have a five-year old middle of the road setup that runs all three Sims very smoothly with 60-70 fps and no noticeable stuttering. Which means the software is well optimized. The only thing I can think of is configuring the graphics card differently or something in the operating system.

Depends on the resolution, settings, AA etc too though. I’m sure if I ran this at 1080p the fps would be bonkers :D

This is a TSW2 issue though. These stutters did not exist in TSW2020.

If that's the case I ought to have problems with my lowly and ancient gtx 1070. I do have a g-sync monitor. Does that make a difference?

I've recorded a short video of the Bakerloo line and I've MSI afterburner shown with the fps counter. You can clearly see the stutters especially at the very end of the video.

In this video you can see why it's difficult to say exactly where the stutters appear because they are extremely frequent.

No, that would be screen tearing. These, for me at least, are very very micro stutters. It was an issue way back when Great Western Express was first released. They patched it and got rid of it almost entirely, but it seems to be more obvious again in TSW2. I would say of the 3 routes, SPG seems to be least affected by it, Bakerloo worst (but only once in the open air) and Koln-Aachen is somewhere in the middle. For me they are almost imperceptible so not the end of the world, but clearly for some people it's really quite bad.

You can see it stuttering but not actually impacting the FPS. That's what I've seen too.

It does impact fps. Maybe not at the beginning, but at the very end of the video it drops below 50 and it's very noticeable.

So, do we have to understand that the topic will fall in the deep ?
Or if there is something to expect ?

what a pleasure to replay ruhr sieg nord without any stuttering :)
I think there are more details and trees on this map btw

but still clipping, loading textures, lighting, shadows, speed limits on the map vs HUD bugs as usual :D

Not necessarily a stuttering issue, but despite using the DX12 “fix” and getting a near constant 60FPS on Bakerloo and Köln-Aachen and others.

Ruhr-Sieg Nord seems to be the most frame rate intensive so far. I’m getting 45-50 FPS mostly, Hagen was always a frame rate killer in TSW2020, but glad to see it’s very much improved. Just thought it was interesting, is it to do with foliage, I wonder?

I hit normal fps with my config on this dlc (70-100)
    Good stability (almost) without stuttering

I don't get it that often, but regularly. I think it has nothing to do with fps, but something with streaming the next sector. Putting it on the SSD didn't do anything.

If the whole preserved collection is like this - that will be without me this time :o
What a poor level of performance...

btw where is the sound of the loc in 1st view ?

A shame that we don't find any info about game optimization in the new roadmap.
No doubt that is more important that some alphabetical signs like *** ;)

Yes hopefully the stuttering will be improved altough it might very well come from our own computers not being able to handle the game also yes the worst stuttering spots are mile post 18 and 22 on SKA

In the new preserved DLC that came available a week ago, I noticed that LIRR is very very laggy especially near Jamaica or New York Penn, while Ruhr Sieg Nord is quite ok performance-wise, but stutters are still there albeit less noticeable.
