malikrthr Glad you're able to enjoy the game again. A bit complicated how you done it (you just need to copy the depot to your RailWorks installation and delete "verify_cache_key" once before starting the game). There's no need to keep two installations btw. Your workshop content is corrupt though, as you mentioned. Scenarios may crash - depending on how corrupt the xmls are. You should unsubscribe everything from Workshop and add your favourites back piece by piece. I suspect a missing file lock leads to xmls being corrupted while workshop subscriptions are in the queue being transferred to RailWorks\temp and tagged as workshop there before being copied to content. Could be due to you moving your installation over and Workshop resyncing everything that triggered this. I'd advise manually installing all workshop content which counters this issue they were never able to fix. Subscribe via Steam client, install directly from steamapps\workshop\content\24010 to RailWorks\Content like any other 3rd party route or scenario, then unsubscribe before firing up TS. This way you'll not get corrupt scenarios and it will make the game startup faster as Workshop has no items to sync. Cheers and merry christmas.
I just noticed when launching TSC v75.8a in 64 bit mode, any route launched presents you with a black screen. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled TSC v77.6b and also notice when launching any TSC route after a brand new clean installation, it results in a black screen. Has anyone experienced this behavior lately with TSC? I am not sure if it could be Windows 11 24H2 causing this. So far running TSC v75.8a in 32 bit mode resolves this but running any 64 bit instance of the program results in a black screen. Thanks for letting me know. I unsubscribed from all workshop content so I can have a clean lean installation and plan to install the workshop items one by one. I am also curious to know where the "verify_cache_key" is located so I can delete it after having v75.8a installed? Many thanks, Cheers and Merry Christmas
One more thing about the black screen. You mentioned corrupt scenarios and there is a teeny-tiny chance... Up until recently TSC was like this: It starts up. Shows the logo. It starts the gaming output. Goes full screen if that's selected, otherwise stays put. There might even be a difference between HDMI, DVI and VGA output mode. Update scenario database, rebuild if needed. During this phase the game is seemingly frozen. Note: windowed shows logo, full screen is dark. Then it shows the loading screen. Saves the scenario database (cache). In my case it would spend a casual 3-10 minutes rebuilding. Scanning just 30 or so seconds. I don't know whether this was changed, or I was using Windowed, but I remember seeing the logo during the final months of my desktop. Now I have a minimal installation that loads in 2 seconds, so can't say. I also launch with a Steam shortcut.
Thanks for the suggestion, very early this morning, I performed a new install of 75.8a and copied the content and assets folder from my v77.6 install to 75.8 using 7 zip. I then set TSC to run off of the graphics card. Interestingly now after the new install of TSC 75.8, I see my routes and trains appear in the menu but when attempting to launch a route in quick drive, career scenario or standard scenarip, it jumps to default background TSC background with the 3 trains instead of the actual route loading. Something must have went wrong when copying over the assets or content folder, or perhaps I need to copy 1 route at a time or something. Either way, hopefully I can get it all sorted out soon and play TSC
Many thanks everyone for your suggestions and advice. With everyone's help, I successfully downgraded to train simulator v75.8a. It is refreshing playing on the solid build with working signals and headlight flares. Now time to have fun, enjoy the sim, and install some mods for even more realism and immersion
Still not sure why you are having the background issues, but as said I did it the other way round and copied the downloaded core depot to my full installation (overwrite all files and delete "verify_cache_key"!) as there's no need for 77.b. You can still swap the core anytime using this method, you must overwrite present files that's important. This is exactly how Steam would update your game, except that due to presence of "verify_cache_key" modded files would be removed upon starting TS once. If you are doing it the other way round, copying Assets and Content to the empty core installation, you might lose DRM files from 3rd parties like RSSLO for example, which are hiding in the core folders.
The background issue is now resolved. Suprisingly the issue was that I renamed the depot_24009 folder once I moved it to another drive in my computer, preventing the route and trains to load. Once I reverted the name of the folder, I was able to play it. One of my questions is, where is the verify cache key located so I can delete it? I looked for it but it didn't appear. So far, I can play TSC v75.8a successfully with mods installed
The verify_cache_key will be in your RailWorks folder (alongside RailWorks64.exe and so on) if it's not there then it will not trigger a verify.
Yep, that file is self-destructing . Best to remove it from the downloaded depot in case you have to reapply it again. And make sure the file "steam_appid.txt" is present in any folder you're running RailWorks from.
Awesome It is definitely not there so all is good I made sure to copy the "steam_appid.txt" file into the folder where Railworks is running from. It definitely works and is running great on my system now
I've been having black screen issues too lately. Any time I try to run a scenario after the scenario loads the sim freezes with a black screen and only looped loco audio. I ran a LogMate just now so I don't suppose anyone could study it to check if it is an issue with the sim? I recently moved my TS folder to a new SSD I got for Christmas. But I don't think that would have bricked it. I uploaded the log file here for viewing: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hwjsHjd8b9XsrIP-7VbVfCWlJ1vDsLO-/view?usp=sharing If worse comes to worse I simply can just reinstall TS after backing up my Content and Assets folders.
I've had two hangs the last weeks, the video driver logged a crash. I wasn't able to get out at all, and my others screen stopped, too. Coincidence or else, I turned off my other screens (one of them USB) and no crashes since. In my case those have been long sessions, though. The sim is fairly static so there is way more effect of reverting driver and OS updates than reinstalling the sim. To be fair in the last 10 years I never resolved anything by reinstalling anything, except specific drivers.
This looks like not a correct solution, but more like a hack. It seems physics is turned on once power is added with the throttle and all that sliding begins again... So it looks really weird. Train was standing and then started to slide backwards, but it should begin to move forward instead. Only if you apply much more power, then required you can begin to move forward.
I finally just opt to go for version 75.8a instead of 77.6b and call it a day. I have v75.8a installed on one drive and 77.6b installed on another drive but mainly working with 75.8a. Periodically if a new route comes out on steam, I'll download it but then copy the newest subfolder within my assets folder to the 75.8a install folder. I think I am going to try experimenting using the simulator for a short while without mods though. While tempting, it can be tedious to backtrack incase there is a mod that causes the sim to crash.
Nice to see TSC get a mention in a TSW Q&A which referenced the upgrade in the past tense. It's a pity there isn't a forum or somewhere that they could have addressed TSC customers directly.
I'd have thought the 'Announcements' section of this forum would have been one obvious place for starters! Or were you being sarcastic? Seems to me like they're trying to keep the cessation of any further development of TSC quiet to avoid harming dlc sales.
We don´t have any prove, but I´m 100% sure at this point, that this is the case. For the casual player DLC development has not really ended anway, because they still release some third party via Steam and that makes it look like, TSC is still going as normal.
You would think so but bland platitudes are so much easier to convey on a slick TSW presentation. Its been clear for months that development had been pulled but I guess they wouldn't want to mention it as customers might ask why stuff hadn't been fixed and they couldn't say it had been mothballed as that would raise unrealistic expectations. I don't think ignoring a customer base is the best way to boost sales but to be fair it does seem to be all hands to the pump over in TSW5 land as they try to get a grip on performance issues.
From what is sounds like, TSC is still in the process of getting developed and getting TLC to breath new life into it. I am glad to hear that DTG is continuing to review and work on TSC and prepare. I think this is a sign that DTG and third party developers will release routes for TSC in the future. Hope is definitely not lost, as they confirmed in the roadmap "there is still life in Train Sim Classic and it's ticking along very well" This gives me hope that DTG will soon create routes for TSC and further improve the simulator
'Ticking along very well" Is a non answer. These are the first "official" words spoken on the status, updates, and the future of TSC in months. Maybe they are spread too thin with TSW5, TSW Thomas, Catan, TSW Tycoon, TSW VR, fishing, and flying?
Agreed, I think the TSC community is definitely owed an explanation or atleast some status update as to what is going on in TSC. The mention from the video only lasted a few seconds which makes me curious, what exactly is going on with TSC. Hopefully I am not getting my hopes up but I'd really like for TSC to be further improved with the core project
Anything new - or something that could be done - about the signaling issue ? RSSLO Nürnberg/Nuremberg-Donauwörth tried with Beta 78.1a because of stutter in the TSC 2024 main version. Stutter was reduced but the first three signals were red, so I went back to TSC main version.
I think downgrading to 75.8a is the best as the current main version has a few bugs. Getting newly purchased DLC is a bit of a manual process but still solid. Hopefully something big is coming for TSC with a different build number
It is a long process but I have linked the below thread that explains the steps https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...ly-install-old-ts-versions-next-to-tsc.71041/
I just saw in the TSW March roadmap that there is mention of brand new TSC addons releases in the Springtime spring takeover. I am curious what addons will release for TSC
Expecting this to be a Steam release for an already existing DLC. As much as I'd love it to be a new route or new traction for TS, I can't imagine there's any surprises coming.
In the TSW March roadmap, I briefly heard that the devs will be working on content for TSC for months and years and an update for TSC was released today that we have expected over the last few months. I hope this is a new core version of TSC. It is good to hear that DTG will be continuing work on TSC for the long term
My installation didn't change. For some reason Visual C (++) Redistributable got reinstalled. Supposedly there was a 200 MB update but it clearly didn't change anything.
The last update announced here on the forum was on February 5th: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/train-simulator-classic-update-5th-february.88996/ Looks like the only thing updates was two JT routes on Steam
So I hope, provided "something relatively big is comming" , it includes a fix for the loco lights issue the last regular update brought.
I definitely think there is some stuff in the works for TSC after listening to the end of the latest TSW roadmap. Time frame is unknown but definitely I predict something to arrive for TSC around the summer to Fall of this year
That big glaring signal bug is about the only problem I experienced in the Beta. I really hope they get back to work, and continue with the Betas. They were making really good progress too. The silence is deafening.
Locomotives derail on turntables. When the deck turns the loco stay stationary. They turned off physics for stationary trains to prevent the players trains from slowly creeping along the rails.
When your read back in this post, you'll notice that the red light problem is there for a long time. I hope with you for a solution, but I think TSC will not be updated anymore.
If I recall correctly. The last core update was May 21, 2024. I give it at most 1 more month before I think this is vaporware if DTG doesn't have wn update on the state of TSC by then. I am currently operating at TSC v75.8a until the next core update releases. V75.8a is the last best stable version at the moment. Headlight flares are not functioning properly in v77.6b which breaks immersion for most trains
