So I've been making a simple livery for the class 387, but I'm not sure what to add to it. I've been looking through the screenshots here for inspiration and while they have been very helpful, I've still come up with a blank. It is, of course, possible that it doesn't need anything added to it - I'm not sure. Nevertheless, here it is: https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/212512

    IMG_2025.04.09-18.09.41.jpg IMG_2025.04.09-18.10.14.jpg IMG_2025.04.09-18.10.34.jpg IMG_2025.04.09-18.10.58.jpg

It's for this reason I pretty much exclusively use the livery designer for requests. Requests don't need me to think of something original and have some reference material for me to copy.

This looks great. I'd say the middle section of the carriages might need something to fill the gap up slightly but I wouldn't say it's entirely necessary. It still looks great regardless. See, inspiration does help. And your good at it which is a plus.

Thank you! I couldn't put my finger on it, but yes - something should go in between the doors. Now I simply need to think of what that should be.

Maybe Gatwick Express branding, similar to what I did with my upcoming 390 which features Avanti branding in the centre of the carriages. But just see where your mind takes you.

I'm really impressed by the Rail 200 branding. I had to do mine in pieces and I still am not all too happy with it. Any tips ;) But seriously, it looks great. You should be proud of your work :D

It’s all good in the hood. Don’t worry.

And thank you, I will be taking some leave from tonight onwards I think. So I’m sorry if I offended you or TG08.
I have spoken to TG08 and so aware of the situation going forward.

It’s all yours and I trust you both with all my heart:)

I try to be :) I'll do your threads as well as mine while your gone. I'm a bit busy tomorrow with appointments so I'll do what I can tonight. I also want to be careful as when I uploaded the comment with the links, it said a moderator had to approve it before others could see it which is a concern.

I'm not offended at all. You did say a while back that you may have to step back briefly. But I don't speak for everyone as I have to remind myself :)

Wow :o. That looks great, judging the short timeframe you have had so far :). I agree with JPlayz in that the middle of the carriages look a bit bare, so maybe adding GX logos would be cool, even if it was just the wording and not the actual logo.

Well what can I say that’s looking bang on to be fair. Well done. Now it’s getting interesting:)
The BR logo is completely of tho. I only have this to hand but may help you achieve a more accurate BR logo.
    IMG_2586.jpeg
The logo has a slight tilt to the trailer edges which gives it the illusion because it also narrows every so slightly or the rack angle.
In this shot those angles have not been adjusted.
    Where here they have:
IMG_8562.jpeg IMG_8563.jpeg IMG_8566.jpeg To be fair there maybe to much rake as it’s quite narrow at the base.

So back to your design and work. The design and theme is really great but don’t let that work be undone with that BR logo.
It is a simple design when you look at the key designs elements or references points.
Simple lines and simple angles. It will come to if you study it’s design. That’s what design is.

Keeping things simple while being effective in its simplicity for people to easily identify.
And why The BR Arrow logo is such a design that is still recognised today. An Icon of simplicity in design.

Study the ethos behind such designs. I do with most such as Brutalist Architecture. Look and understand it’s feel.

A design has to speak even have a personality. So for the BR logo to speak for people to recognise what it means then it has to be right.

Please don’t take this as criticism rather than constructive criticism because your livery is bang on so please don’t let it down or yourself.
You know you can do better, just take time to see what the logo has to say.

Theres no massive check for the worry or pressure. It’s for fun remember;)

    Catch you soon.
    TSLP✌.

I was debating removing it as I thought it stuck out too much. Plus it was clashing slightly with the AWC split I was going for so I may end up getting rid of the BR logo or recreating the logo and moving it elsewhere

The GX logos did the trick! Thanks for the splendid idea!

Mine is in pieces as well, but to me, yours looks pretty much spot on! No notes!
Good grief! I must admit, I hadn't actually thought of construction lines until reading through this thread yesterday (what a tremendous lifesaver those pink lines are!) but I didn't realise just how far you could take them until seeing these screenshots! It is incredible just how much attention to detail you all put in your liveries! I can't imagine the patience required!

I do see where TSLP is coming from, but I do agree that your Avanti livery looks AWESOME!

    Good morning everyone,
I am pleased to announce that 390 016 in it's fictional livery with Rail 200 logos is now available on CC. I'll post a link below:
Creators Club - AWC 390 016 (fictional livery for Rail 200)
The screenshots featured include the BR logos so you can all see it in it's previous state.

Wow now that’s what I am talking about. I love the curves at the front merging to the windows line. A nice simple design.
For the id ask does the real unit have that information. If not then don’t add.
Also by adding a few small details like door safety signs and tops codes etc. it will set it off and balance it out.
Why because less is more. Sometime I see others trying to overload and do to much when they don’t need to.

I say that is the case here. Add text to the Rail 200 logo. Warning signs just small things that fill the vast space but not fill in large unnecessary decals. This is how I livery can look like it been done with no thought process. Hence may look odd.
Too much or not enough of the correct stuff.

So that’s my only suggestion because the livery is perfectly executed. Just don’t overload it.
    Balance it out.

Add to add to a livery not add to take away from its core theme design.

    Hope this helps.
    TSLP✌.

Railway 200 is to celebrate all things rail. So can you take any inspiration to add a motto such as 200 logo/ Years of Innovation Since 1825.
Then I will be adding historical references along side the logo. A risk but it’s to the theme.

Again Railway 200 theme as is yours so why don’t you look for anything related to the unit or line anything of historical significance and why that livery is on what it is.

Railway 200 is a core theme and main route of a design or development stage. Make sure we have all the necessary information that makes the livery worth doing. So a Class 43, and a 390 for its vast amount of historical value.

Again it’s about balancing and maintaining a core theme. If you have no information related to the core theme then noting to work on or maintain throughout its process, resulting in issues like this.

So yes that’s the route I’d take as I personally take that approach. Especially with Railway 200.
It’s historically based, so that is and must be the core at all levels of planning and end product.

Sorry if I’m being blunt but it’s how I get when taking about liveries. It’s my passion.
If a Job needs doing then it must be done right.

Something Tom my old engineering teacher told me once.

You can because you have some talent going on, so like I say to Jplayz work the problem not let the problem work you.
A problem you don’t see because one never worked the problems out before hand.

That takes time and good planning. And support from others.
I know that first hand with doing this little project.

Support and will do all I can to support you.
    It’s so important:)

It’s okay just work with TG08, don’t be adding loads of links as DTG may see that as unnecessary. A worry I could do without so please if you could hold off as I’m sure people that follow us know where to go.
Please understand the worry this may cause me while away. I do not want to come back and find it been taking away.
Not only for me but others that have so kindly come along and continued to support the project.

And it’s okay I am talking a step back as TG08 is aware. Please don’t burden yourself with unnecessary stress especially with links.
It’s fine, I really appreciate the help I do. Please spend your time and energy where and when it is needed.
Referring to assisting on here while I am away.

You have you own little discussion going on etc which is so nice to see. Enjoy that side not running this.
It will run itself if you focus on the enjoyment with others as your are.

What your doing is what is important. Engagement with others interested and supporting.
That’s all is needed and what I would like to see going forward.

I’m not for self promotion really and having load of links will make me appear as so. That’s not me.
    It’s for others to enjoy.

The Rail 200 thread is by the community for the community.
Just enjoy what we have not what we don’t.

Your happy TG08 is happy and so am I and the people that are here.
Let’s not spoil that by having unnecessary stress by over use of links.

Relax and enjoy, it’s essential down to us to set the mood and atmosphere here.
For that we must be happy.

Okay then mate I will leave you be or the conversation will keep coming.
I’ll popping around and then that’s it from me.

    Have fun:)

    That’s all I ask.

I’m stuck for time and didn’t want to share this concept yet. But trust me STICK with it. It works;)
I’m going soon but keep your eyes peeled.

Balance remember balance and reference. aeronautic got that aspect right with the work seen by Him. Just working off the window line.
A key feature of a unit and use of design. On a 390 you have loads of space to play with, so like I say stick with it.

    Your close, too close;)

Trust me. It will click if you take the time to see what the unit has to say and the logo. They will speak to each other and complement each other perfectly.

Hello. The pink lines. These come from when I did drawings. I called them base lines.
This is why when at engineering school I was good with a drafts board but not CAD. (Computer Aided Design)

I also did my own design concepts and so one main base line or reference line is needed. Then all other elements that reference from that point.
It’s the most accurate way of getting the right scale and angles etc.

This would mean a Jig. So I will make what you see as a Jig to keep things in equilibrium. Balanced so nothing is out of position. Because all reference lines (the Pink) helps keep it all tightly aligned.

You must alway have one line that is 100% right as all other lines will work from that. So a long coach for example. A new decal set dead centre to the middle light or balancing from doors as ref. Then close in or open the decal out so both side are equal. Meaning so will the work you do. Bang one master jig on all coaches and then copy work on to other coaches and balance to the jig on that coach.

And thank you it does take a lot of patience but I’m calm when I’m TSW so can sit there all day and night working. Because it’s how I have always worked since a kid. I want perfection and that means dedication Ie I most certainly have decided to dedicate my time on this earth to do what I do. I relax and so can be me when making liveries. I really do love making them.

I also said I wanted the best when I made my first livery and I wanted others to have the best too.
If that’s my gift then I will share and help others to enjoy what livery making can bring.

I need TSW because it’s make me relax and be me. It why I have so much time devoted to something that give me so much joy and happiness.

And as I have said to you recently I will do all I can to bring you the same:)
    Your Friend, Lee/ TSLP✌.

PS if I disappear it only because it’s getting late and then I’m done I think.
Don’t want to suddenly turn into the Incredible Hulk lol.

To be honest, I used the Avanti West Coast logos at the ends of each carriage to fill the gap, whilst also being realistic as AWCs logo on the 390s did look like this for a while on their Partial liveries during Covid.

I agree. For the time being I feel happy with it. The BR logos aren't as necessary for me as it does stand out slightly whatever I do with it. I'll just see.

Thank you very much for the kind words. They are much appreciated.
Now, I hadn't actually considered the historical significance of the event. I simply treated is as any other livery (like the trainbow) and stuck a variant on my favourite unit. It is a good point you raise, and I will consider it for the next livery. As for the warning stickers, I was going to add them, but with how blurry they look, I decided against them quite quickly:
    upload_2025-4-10_18-57-4.png

And don't worry about being blunt. This job does need to be done right.

I’ll have to be quick night is falling lol.

    Core theme. Railway 200.
Don’t think to much or try make it into more than it’s core theme. Is Avanti really important to display?.
If so let both logos work together not fight each other. KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Don’t get lost with so many ideas at once. Focus or you will lose all aim and vision of what you want.
I have to check myself if I am being overloaded with ideas. Test them ideas put don’t force them.

Here I don’t want to be overloading you with more things to consider.
I’m sure you have a lot to read from me:)

So Bye my lover, lol, Bye My friend. (Mr Tank Commander Song) there for you.

Not a problem at all, credit where credit is due:)

I’m sure you know what your doing too. I understand then if you have already chosen not to use warnings labels if that’s how you personally feel. Yet if I may I would say they are to small. And don’t look like they mirror like the back white decal would.

I’ll be honest some of my earlier work is poor looking back. I feel the size of the warning decals is off so just don’t look right to the trained eye.

So knowing what I know now that being more concerned in this area of work than before, because of how poor my old standard of work is.
Maybe resize them again and see if that helps. It will help with the Text if nothing else.

And I will ask a silly question but are these signs hand made on set decals in signs?.

Hey glad we agree on something so soon to:) I am aware of how being blunt or direct with others may not see it as so. Getting a Job done.
Rude maybe or arrogant. Yet I was a in the Transport industry and well it’s dog eat dog, and so that side of how I talk is probably down to years of driver abuse lol. I started as a shy kid, wet behind the ears, but left a Man. And a mean tough one too.

And like I would say to most of my work colleagues. Is that I’m not here to make friends but to get a job done.
I believe what goes on in work should never effect relationships outside of work.

Hence never mix work with pleasure.
And it’s never personal. Bad for business;).

Right I’m waffling, and just want to sign off.

I’m sure you will have it shorted when I return.

Please have fun and enjoy time here while I am way.
IE no long waffles like this.

I don’t want to have, Oh No it’s Him as a nickname.

    (Go Lee).
    Have fun my friend.

You are correct, they don't mirror - I intended to copy them instead of projecting them.
The signs are not handmade. They come from the pre-made decals, text included. Here is a slightly bigger sign (still a little to blurry, and a little too big in my opinion, but it portrays the issue well enough):
    upload_2025-4-10_21-17-23.png
You are not too dissimilar to myself, it seems! I often text in a robotic manner void of much emotion. Not really sure why or how to change that but it is what it is and I'm ok with it. And no, you are far to pleasant to have 'Oh No it's Him' as a nickname.

I have subscribed to this livery, and I have to say, it looks pretty good!

Here's some feedback I'd give, in the hope of helping you make the livery better (if you feel like it's needed):

I'd say that it is pretty good, but I wouldn't worry about the OHLE warning stickers being blurry. I'd still add them, as it will add a sense of realism to the livery. I put OHLE warning signs on my UK liveries all of the time (era-permitting), and despite me knowing the end result (it being pixelated/blurry), I don't let it affect me whilst creating the livery.

The fade into the window lines is absolutely perfect as well. I'm unsure about the black shape you have on the middle carriages though. However, on the whole, it is a fantastic effort. Well done!

I have subscribed to this livery as well, and I have to say, it looks good judging the issues you have experienced thus far.

(The idea behind this livery is perfect (even if you and Lee have gone down a similar route in regards to the Pendolino x APT crossover).)

Here's some feedback I'd give, in the hope of helping you make the livery better (if you feel like it's needed):

I like it, it does the job really nicely. (I know it is WIP, so I'll only comment on what you have shared so far :).)

I'd say that the Avanti teal needs to be slightly darker than it currently is. There is a quick solution to that though; spawn your livery next to a normal Avanti 390 (in Training Center for example), and compare the colours until you get it 1:1 with the real one. It'll make sense, especially if people want to run it in timetable mode (for example), and it'll make your livery look even better, and that's before we get onto that BR logo...

Speaking of, we know that you are having some trouble with placing the BR logo on the livery. I was thinking about implementing it as if it was behind the passenger doors initially. A crazy thought I know, but I'm not sure how it would look though. It's something for you to test I suppose :o. Lee has given some great advice on the creation of a BR double arrow, so as long as you follow that, then you can decide on where it looks best on your livery.

Overall (despite these minor issues), it does the job. I'd be very happy with it still. If you work on those things I've picked out, and that tedious BR logo, then it should be a job done! Well done to you too!

Cheers for the feedback. I'll get on it right away. Regarding the BR logos, I may try using Lee's advice using the lines to structure it and then adding it on the ends of the coaches somewhere. I'll see though.
    Bye for now,

I've had a look myself regarding the teal colour compared to a normal Pendolino. I have seen that the colour is absolutely perfect as it is. So don't worry about changing it ;).

I'll keep that in mind. I have a few things I'd like to add, but I'll just leave it for a bit and go to the drawing board before I'm set on something :)

    Good afternoon everyone,
I am happy to announce that I am currently planning out a design for my next project. This will be based off of the LNR Class 350, but with a twist ;) I'll post an example of what I will use as a structure below:
If anyone has any suggestions for me, Lee or TG08, please comment below and we'll make sure to get back to you all as soon as possible :)

    Take care,
    JPlayz

Wow, thank you so much! I'll add the stickers and details when I next get the opportunity and see how it looks again.

Yeah, see how it looks after you put the stickers back on. If you still don't like them, then it is as simple as just removing them again :). It's your livery at the end of the day, so I'd still be happy regardless of the outcome.

Sorry I am late, I will do this one before I go.

Sure I thought a man of you caliber wouldn’t make such errors. And looking at your screen shot you have decals similar to me.

And me will a lot to go into but I am not perfect, I speak how I think that’s all. I am aware that I may mis judged others ie me being on the up take to take hints etc. I am not to receptive to other’s feelings yet that don’t mean I don’t care.
My problem is there are many sides to me so many different thought processes. TSW is the only one that keeps me focused and so when it comes to liveries then I will like now start to flow. So I will have to remember what’s going on constantly which takes massive amounts of energy to focus on who I am and what’s being said. Or conversation will wonder and be all over the place. I am aware of this as I am speaking about it, thus aware. So I can control this one. End.

I will have to go tho and if you want I can DM you if you fancy a chat. Don’t want to make this thread 177 pages;) (Sorry just my funny side).
Don’t mean no harm as I sure you have a good reply for my Hulk moment.

In fact we have been discussing Nicknames. We have Mr Mystery Aka Jplayz. I did Originally Call TG08 a Super Computer so He could simply be SC lol. Me that’s up to you guys and for you. Well I thought about Jimbo.

Jimbo the Cartoon Plane. Love that Show as Kid. So come on Jimbo,,,Jimbo,,,JIMBO hahahah.

On that note I’ll get off before you blank me forever.

    See ya Jimbo;)

    ……oh no…..Will miss ya guys.

    TSLP✌.

Quick peeks. The GX express looks well ace to be fair and I would add the OHLE stickers (Mr SC;) for the Technological terminology) lol
But I would agree with TG08 on adding them.
They work even hand made steel plate ones as seen here. Made on TSW2 and so old photos. IMG_3137.jpeg IMG_3151.jpeg It’s never perfect but for effect then it’s as close as we can come to the real deal right now.

Jplayz 390. Okay I again agree with what TG08 says. And to be honest never considered correcting Jplayz because the colour was so off that I thought He was using a completely different colour. So Jplayz I would most certainly do what TG08 suggested. Good tip for anyone.
And for the BR logo I’ve have tried to hint to him that it works, hopefully He has taken this is to consideration and why he has made recent announcements about his plans going forward. A WIP and I’m sure with looking good now when it’s finalised it will look great.

Most certainly looks like I’ve got some competition going on tho. He even posted it on CC first crafty little so and so lol.
But will it be fully ready before for mine. JPlayz the mind games my friend then mine could be done now. Might upload it now,,,,or I may not,,,it could be still maturing like the fine wine I told you about.

Treat your livery the same remember,, you want to enjoy the taste of your wine;)
    Relax JPlayz, tell him TG08:).

That’s it then from me, Bye folks and enjoy your weekend.
    I will be Sanding down:(

Don’t say that, after my last statement of the colour being completely off, then that would mean I am going colour blind.
    Noooooooooo:(

I tested it within the game on Training Center against a normal Pendolino, and the colours looked pretty close :). It doesn't mean you are going colour blind though.

    Good mornings all.

Well I finally got this one done. IMG_2915.jpeg IMG_2916.jpeg IMG_2923.jpeg So just a little bit of Information, the ideas and the inspiration behind 390 001.

Well this started off as a little competition between a friend and community member here. Mr Mystery:)
He too has been working on something similar even has it up on CC, beat me too it.
But joking aside this has been in some form of development due to so much work I currently have in development.
So I patched her up and gave 390 001 a livery she can be proud off, and why I thank Jplayz for allowing me to have this little competition in order to see what we could come up with. Our Creative minds.

    My Inspiration.
Okay now obviously due to the 390 taking most of it roots in some form from earlier technology developed by the British Rail during the 70s and 80s.
With early research based around Hunting oscillating at speeds. Even as low as 20mph.
There was even some research talking place as earlier back as 1964, leading to the HSFT. Most of this was Lead by A Dr Sydney Jones and then Alan Wickens to progress the program further and where BR Passenger Development paid interest in the concept but couldn’t allow the funds.

So seeing this to was so critical to overcoming some obstacles that BR was not fully aware of its cause. Only by using Engineers such as Dr Sydney Jones and Alan Wickens who’s experience was based around flights systems and aerodynamics.
They seen that Hunting oscillating was similar to aeroelastic flutter.

Without this knowledge then would we have the APT? Probably yes, due to Europe already developing systems and why the 390 is based on the Fiat Ferroviaria that also makes use of early testing and technological data.

Here I have called Unit 69201 Alan Wickens and Unit 69101 Sydney Jones. Homage to their early work on advancement of the technology to build the APT E, APT P and APT or BR Class 370.

The livery also take reference from the APT on its first public testing. I have tried to keep important details from the original livery design yet update it for today’s style and the 390 Bodywork.

So just a little information on 390 001 and now I shall leave you with a few photos of Her in action, wonder what she would like with traffic build up and dirty. A Used version maybe?

Anyway 390 001 is now available under TSLP206 or just enter TSLP. Sorry not sure how to do links.
Hope you like the Photos. May open a thread for fictional liveries seen in photo mode.

    IMG_2930.jpeg IMG_2931.jpeg

    ….Continued.

That livery looks amazing, and I love the curves around the side window. Well done! It will look awesome next to JPlayz's smashing Avanti livery.

Good morning everybody. It's that time of the week again, so here's some updates from me.

I have now added the 'Required Liveries' for the Class 150 and Class 350 following some feedback from the other team members. So, it just leaves the Class 87 and the Mk3 coaches to go! We're getting there.

However, this isn't the only update I'll be sharing today... I've been busy on 1Z01 too!

I have now added a 'Required DLC' section for the R200 exhibits, and a 'Required Liveries' section to go along with it.

Since the creation process is done, you'll notice that V0.5 now has 'POST CREATION TESTING' before it. This will continue until it is the final release version. It is a bumper update, so I'd go check it out!

    TG08 :).
