Stuttgart - Ulm, but via two different lines. Today I'm throwing in a new suggestion for future Train Sim World add-ons. This is the Stuttgart - Ulm line, which is located in south-west Germany. The highlight is that the player is offered the choice between a classic, old-fashioned line and a brand new race track. Here, the player has the option of choosing whether he prefers to pull his train up the old Filstalbahn, or whether he races along the brand new Wendlingen - Ulm high-speed line. While the high-speed line impresses with imposing structures such as the Filstalbrücke (that has a length of ~ 480 metres and a height of 85 metres) in particular, the highlight of the Filstalbahn is probably the arduous climb over the winding Geislinger Steige. If you use the Filstalbahn, it takes about an hour to get from one end to the other. This covers a distance of about 94 kilometres (which corresponds to about 58 miles). If you use the high-speed line, you save about a quarter of an hour. This is mainly due to the high speeds of up to 250 kmph. In addition to impressive buildings, the varied and beautiful landscape also speaks in favour of this route. The implementation of the high-speed line Wendlingen - Ulm would also bring ETCS into play, as this line is equipped with ETCS level 2. I can say with certainty that an ETCS integration in TSW would please many players. Many will know that a high-speed line from the new Stuttgart main station to the connection to the Wendlingen - Ulm high-speed line is also under construction. However, as this will not be completed in the foreseeable future, this line is not included in this proposal. The same applies to the new Stuttgart main station, which is currently under construction. Map As I did in my previous suggestions, I have prepared a self-designed route map so that you can better imagine the whole thing. Please note that only stops I want to integrate in the route are listed. Rolling stock High speed rolling stock ICE 4 / DB BR 412 For this route, I propose the ICE 4 as the associated train. It is the most common train on the route in real life, so it deserves this place in the add-on that is proposed here. It is the flagship of Deutsche Bahn, intended for domestic traffic and reaching speeds of up to 265 kmph. It comes in various versions, including the 12-car variant that I would use for this. This is justified by the fact that it is the most common. This train has been suggested very often on this forum. As an additional source of information for those interested, I suggest this thread by Br425, who has really taken pains to compile information about this train for us. ICE 1 / DB BR 401 (layered) The ICE 1 was the first ever serial built ICE train that you may already have encountered on the Kassel - Würzburg high speed line. Regional transportation rolling stock Stadler FLIRT 3 / BR 429.1 This train is used for MEX (“Metropolexpress”) services on the Filstalbahn (which are similar to RB services). It is an EMU consisting of 3 or 5 carriages. Operated by Go-Ahead, these trains reach up to 160 kph. As they are very common on the Filstalbahn, I provided to include them in this DLC. DB BR 146.2 with double-deck carriages (layered) This are the classic double-decker carriages for regional transportation in Germany. They are commonly pulled (or pushed) by the BR 146.2 loco. You may already know it from other TSW routes. Note: Other locomotives that are not specified here but also operate on the lines (for example class 101 or 403) should also have some services assigned to them on the route, if you own them from buying other add-ons. I have listed here only the trains that should be included with the purchase of the add-on suggested here. If you want a freight locomotive that can go on SFS Stuttgart Ulm then a DB BR193 and also it can do an IRE 200 service with the IC Cab Car in Red Colour. Video is from the DB Projectbau SFS Stuttgart Ulm Even better you can make it SMU SFS Mannheim Ulm once the Stuttgart 21 is complete length is 183 km but still lose out to SFS Hannover Wurzburg Kassel Fulda section by 3 km 186 km. For late-night freight services SFS Stuttgart Ulm will suffer the same problems as SFS Hannover Wurzburg is that on a steep section you will lose speed
I like the idea of both the old and slow, and new high speed lines in one route. The Geislinger Steige is long overdue for addition to TSW3, as is Stuttgart itself. This route would offer a great contrast between high speed ETCS running, and the slow and challenging climb via Geislingen. It's also a route with tonnes of IC, ICE, EC, RB, RE and freight traffic, which is still mainly concentrated on the old route due to restricted operations on the new line (due to lacking electrification IIRC). The ICE4 would also be great to see, toghether with the BWegt FLIRT 3 it will add some state of the art trains to TSW (with most current modern German trains being from the beginning of last decade). Then on the other hand layers will provide some more variety and fun for those that also like older content (like me). I'd love to pull a heavy IC up the Geislinger Steige with the BR 101.
I agree and for the SFS during the late night hours, it's the Stuttgart area equivalent of SFS Hannover Wurzburg Kassel Wurzburg section where freight trains simply take it over. 130% tractive force Taps 28-30 on 155 on the route you will suffer from the train rolling back towards Stuttgart on the Ulm & HMA bound track. 185.5 185.2 182 Try to keep power below 50% depending on the load if light enough freight max speed max power Afb & ETCS autoset Here's the gradient profile of the route
An Amazing suggestion, an Amazing Route and some Amazing trains! Insta-purchase for me if it ever came also the ICE 3 Series trains can layer onto this aswell as The ICE 1 (probably knew that already) nevertheless amazing suggestion
