Yes but try and open that particular scenario where you no longer can access page two in the AI spawn point, in the 32bit scenario editor.

Yes I edited my QD scenario in 32bit scenario editor and was able to access the page 2 probability options and also added more AI spawn points. I could do this in the 64bit scenario editor before the "Core Update". One other thing that doesn't work is the ATS 185 speed set options.

Can you still open them in the 32bit editor?

The qd scenarios with frozen ai spawnpoint page 2, that i have, crashes my 32bit efitor with an OOM error. And that’s the way it’s been since the 64 bit update. And before even. At some point the scenario file (probably the scenario tracks.bin) becomes so large that it just crashes the 32bit editor. It’s been that way since i started im ts.

Yes I can open them in 32bit editor. My route extends from Peterborough in the south to Darlington in the north incorporating Leeds & Sheffield. Quite a big route. Not much scenery. I haven’t had .png image problems that others have had after the update and I have the 3 Country Corner route. It seems as though more things are broken now than before the update.

Correct, everything in that folder will be removed in the future. Steam added handling for dependent plugin applications so there's no technical need for a separate installer. However, given that it seems to only work some of the time, it's probably worth adding the installer into that folder.

We have it on the list to be looked at as part of the wider long-standing bug fixes.

    Best, Steve

I'm hoping for sometime this week - there are a couple of fixes that are in the process of being tested, all being well, that can be rolled out to everyone soon.

One thing. The setup_audio.bat and the corresponding obsolete OpenAL.dlls in the Install folder should finally be removed.

I have seen players advising others to use it - this could lead to complications not easy to trace once people forget they are using the old dlls. (And the process is irreversible unless you do a file verification or backed up the RailWorks\OpenAL64.dll)

Can the PackageInfo folder be looked at to see if it is still needed?
It seems to slow down some processes in TSC eg Utlities.exe.

  14. torfmeister

    torfmeister Guest

The PackageInfo folder contains the uninstall information for .rwp (RailWorksPackage)s. The .pi (=PackageInfo) files are simple lists of each file installed. You can safely delete this folder or move it away, if you do not need the Uninstall feature - that folder is not used by TSC. It is not part of the core distribution, but gets created by Utilities.exe upon installing an .rwp.

As I install .rwp archives with 7zip, I don't need Utilities.exe anyway, except for creating .lan translation files.

Thanks - I was hoping that it may no longer be needed after the code clean-up and that somehow utilities.exe would also be upgraded.

As it's just related to Utilities.exe, it's up to you. The Utilties.exe uninstaller does not keep track of overwritten files, for example if you'd uninstall the GermanSignalScripts1.4 update it will break the standard signals. So I don't use it.

As for the the reported codepage issues with Utilities.exe, an update would surely be necessary. I've just ordered my new PC, after consulting friends and Youtube I've decided to go with Win10 (currently Win7) and later directly upgrade to 12 in 2025/26, skipping the more hardware-hungry 11.

What spec of PC did you go for?

Board: MSI Pro Z690-A WIFI DDR5
    CPU: i9-12900K (16 x 3.2GHz), Cooling: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4
    RAM: 16GB DDR5
    GPU: NVidia RTX 4070 12GB DLSS3
Power Supply: be quiet! Pure Power 12 M - 850W 80 PLUS Gold
    OS: Win10 64 Pro
Storage: 1TB Western Digital WD Blue SN570 M.2 NVMe SSD + 4TB HDD
    Case: MSI MPG Sekira 100R

If necessary, will add a second 1TB SSD designated for TSC (~600 GB) only.

My current system (Acer Aspire M7811 (i7-870) + GTX1050Ti added 5 years ago) served me well since 2011 (!), so it really paid off. Got the new system for €1,970 (about £1,700 / US $2,120). Good time for buying now, especially as GPU prices have become affordable again, and who knows when the next economical/supply chain crisis hits us.

That first-gen i7 surely was a damn good CPU with great single core performance for TSC - so I'll stick with Intel after long considering a Ryzen - but I've never really found trust in AMD products. Only ever using Motorola (MC68000, MC68030 Amigas), Intel and NVidia :).

This doesn't have much (anything) to do with the update, but someone mentioned it recently and I just failed due to it (no problem).
Partial suggestion would be to allow pausing the game but still interacting with the 2D map and switches properly.
So basically decoupling from pausing the simulation from pausing the UI.
I think the picture speaks for itself. In case it doesn't: labels and tracks (yards in particular) can be difficult to attach. This one would be easy by logic alone (two track marks) but anyway. I was a bit late to realize I have manual switching to do. I ended up reversing from Siding 1 West. :D

After the core update TSC freezes while browsing the quick drive menu. I just verified my local files via Steam, but that doesn't fix the problem. This bug makes Quick Drive pretty much unusable for me. Used to work fine before the update. Is this a known issue?

Overlays don't work at all in the DX12 version, so even the Steam fps counter won't show. It's like the DX12 version is forcing itself to dominate the foreground, the In-game fps counter still works though.

I hope they actually address, figure out and fix DX12 as opposed to just saying oh well we tried lol.

I've got the same problem with my copy install that I use to stop steam verify from deleting all of my reskins. TSC runs fine from the main steam install.
My problem started last Friday/Saturday, about the time that the dovetail live problem was noted on the TSW forum. Maybe that is coincidence.

    Very Known issue.

    https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com...99-how-to-fix-the-tsc-menu-crash-after-update

By the way: respect DTG. The patch was basically a desaster and we all waiting for new patch that repairs the damaged things (remember: problems with png thumbnails had to be solved by community, other things seems still bugy after reading in forums).
They might could had restored the TSC with the "day-before-patch" version, until they come alonge with a new "repaired"/ patch. But hey: what do I know

Not a lot apparently, seeing as DTG released a patch to fix the image issue back on the 3rd May.

I've read about the issue, but as far as I can understand from the posted updates in the articles is that the issue is supposed to be fixed. But I'm still experiencing crashes in the Quick Drive menu (pretty much opening Quick Drive gaurantees a crash), even after verifying my installed files via Steam. So whatever update there has been, it didn't fix my issue.

Question is, does DTG know the issue persists, or do they assume they have it fixed? DTG Alex TrainSim-Steve

There was an interim patch that got the game working for a lot of people, but alas there are more things on heaven and earth than we will ever know. DTGs latest missive, more to come, Horatio. Simple answer, more broken things to fix but no ETA.

Sigh... if it ain't the management imposing terrible deadlines - it's the player base.

Just wait. You want it to work as we do, it takes effort and cooperation with 3rd parties devs to fix the issues. Let them test.

Apart from issues with some 3rd party locos, TSC works perfectly well for me.

While I am fortunate that the game works for me just fine, I agree that the silence is deafening.
I'm actively following the game for about 8 years (own it a bit longer), and DTG reliably delivers a recurring experience: posts filled with optimism and enthusiasm followed by absolutely nothing tangible, except for the eventual departure of the involved community managers. At least there are a few stalwart members like torfmeister solving riddles in minutes which take DTG an infinitude.
Hopefully they are just overwhelmed with the acquisition and various other releases, possibly with testing taking longer for one reason or another.

In less salty-acidic ways, it would indeed be nice to get an update on how things are going.

I share the frustration and see little reason to defend DTG's approach to things. For an initial update that was only supposed to improve stability (somewhat disappointing in itself) it is rather ironic that it has only appeared to have made things worse. DTG never seem to have any sense of urgency over correcting problems that their releases cause. All I know is that I don't want another forced update. Please keep it as a beta so that I can opt out!

Purno and R3dS41ft both seem to have a continuation of the .png issue - which begs the question as to whether they actually have the fix installed (yeah, I know, verify etc). Does anyone know what file/executable contained the fix version? My copies of the main executables (RailWorks64.exe etc) are all dated 4th of May and the reported version is 73.9a.
It is quite possible that they have some 3rd party consist/loco that breaks the fix in an unusual way. If either has the time then it would help the community and DTG if they can identify which consist/loco has the issue and tell DTG. There will be tens of thousands of add-on/combos out in the wild - DTG are massively unlikely to have the exact combo that is causing the problem - so it would help everyone if any remaining 'rogue elements' can be nailed. If I could help then I would - but this will be down to (a few?) individual sets of content on their specific machines.

'The.Minister' seems to be hitting the usual variations on the AI 2nd page problem - which DTG have said they haven't fixed yet. So it doesn't surprise me that there are still issues. I also hit this issue as my route is also very large - but in my experience it has never been consistent even within the same scenario so I guess that what he is currently seeing doesn't actually reflect any change in the issue. I hope they do get a fix out as it makes creating new scenarios more laborious as I have to create the spawn point using a distinct characteristic, save it and then edit in RWTools to add the actual info I need.

The DX12 issues are quite separate - it is a beta and you can opt out (ie exactly what people are stating should have happened with the main update) so the best approach is to calmly log your DX12 problems on the relevant page - DTG have put money into the DX12 option so they are unlikely to drop it after just one attempt.

    Hi,

My issue is not related to the .PNG I'm afraid. I can run routes through Steam fine.
However, to avoid validation binning my reskins, I've made a copy install and run from there. The copy doesn't run any more. It hangs when I run a QD or a scenario. By hangs, the game remains responsive, the selection screen vanishes, but loading never happens.
It started about the time dovetail live problems happened, a couple of weeks ago at the time of writing.

I have noticed that when driving at night, all the lights (also inside the cab) are suddenly overexposed. As I had not driven at night for a long time, I can´t tell if it´s the DTG update, the new Nvidia driver or something in my install. Has anyone else experienced this?

That is due to the AdaptiveBloom shader which was boosted with the TS2020 release, it's been mentioned a few times here.

    You can either:

    - Toggle off Bloom at night (Ctrl+Shift+F1)

    or

    - use the better pre-TS2020 shader by installing the free TGV Voyages (based on TS2017) and copy TGVVoyages\dev\shaders\train_post_bloom.fx.o to RailWorks\dev\shaders.

torfmeister Ok, that now makes sense. I had AdaptiveBloom switched off the past couple of years and recently enabled it duo to the new AP weather pack advising me to do so.

I don't have AP V2 pack (I'm a "Fair Cloud" user, so V1 is enough for me and V2 is digging too deep into the core for my taste) - but afaik it delivers its own Bloom shader? Try reinstalling the pack - Steam might have restored the default shaders during a verification.

Ok - I just run from the pc so no idea how it looks. Does sound like the copy has some difference in the runtimes but I'm sure you're already on top of that. Hope it gets fixed.

It is a known issue and the fix is currently held behind other fixes which have been in testing. If you could attempt to repro once the next update rolls out and let us know whether it's still there or not that would be helpful.

I appreciate that things are taking a bit longer than I'd have hoped but I want to be sure that the next update is not going to make matters worse. As things stand right now, we're looking good and should have some news for you in the next day or so.

    Best, Steve

Glad to hear the issue is a known one and fixing is in progress, so I know that patiently waiting for an update is all I need to do :)
Once I see Steam installing an update I'll check if it solves my issue. :)

Core update has now been published. See Patch notes here.

Just a general note on the LUA changes. We identified, with the help of a number of developers, that the change to FLOAT number precision was inappropriate since LUA uses REAL numbers (double-precision). This was a duplication of the numeric precision type supported by the previous core which was also incorrect. Restoring the proper numeric precision type seems to have resolved the lack of function issues in 99% of the content that has been tested. The remaining outliers of content that fails to function in 74.4a (current version) are likely due to some numeric precision errors in coding and will need to be updated to function again.

We know of some related instances which will require updates from our own catalogue and those will be forthcoming in due course.

    Best, Steve
