Hi, Recently I have been having issues with the Just Trains Western Mainlines route. I also have the SDML extension installed. When trying to load the route in Scenario Editor the game will start to load the route and then crash after about 5-10 seconds. Changing the route from somewhere like Paddington with a large amount of scenery to somewhere with not much scenery does not seem to change anything either. I also cannot load any scenarios on the route whatsoever. 2 Days ago it was working fine, and I have not changed any settings in the game or something obvious that would cause the game to crash. Some things that I have tried to fix this are: - Uninstalling and Reinstalling - Uninstalling and Reinstalling Western Mainlines and the Extension - Lowering Graphics Settings Any help would be much appreciated
Hi Thanks for your reply None of the scenarios work whatsoever, nor does quick drive or if I try to make a scenario. Anything which involves loading the route makes the game crash. If you are looking for a specific scenario I have tried then I have tried the ‘Exeter to Paddington’, ‘First Service to Severn Beach’ and ‘Early Morning to London’ scenarios, alongside a variety of different quick drive options with different rolling stock and from different stations.
If it was working fine then it sounds like some settings have changed on your computer Have you made any changes recently? What are your Page file settings? https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/out-of-memory-crashes-page-file-problem.22918/
Contact JustTrains support - they are reported as being very helpful. Could be an asset problem caused by other JT content.
I have just managed to load one of the Mainline Scenarios. I had no issue. I saw chat about having 'Academy' loaded to your simulator. You may want to check that? Just finished this : https://sites.google.com/view/trainsimulatorcontent/uk-routes/oxford-to-bicester I have a site where I am logging all of my trips. Select the arrow right on the slide show and you will see 'A Military Shunt'. You will see that the accuracy of the locations of the rail does not fit well with Google Maps
I sent a ticket last Friday - still awaiting a response. Now that you mention it, I am thinking it probably is something to do with other Just Trains assets as I refunded the "Southwestern Expressways to Reading" route last week, although I only started having problems with Western Mainlines a day or two afterwards. Maybe when I refunded the route, it took some of the required assets away from Western Mainlines as well?
Just had a look through that and followed the steps, no change. I don't think it's to do with memory as i am not getting any kind of 'out of memory' crash report, the game just shuts off with nothing
Just a little bit more info - I just tried some of the other Just Trains routes that I own. I have the Just Trains Cornish mainline route installed separately to Western Mainlines, and that crashes as well when I try to load it. The Just Trains Newcastle - Edinburgh route works fine though.
The Western Main Line Extension includes. Did you purchase this pack or purchase individually? Sounds like this group of DLC are not working together. I would remove all of these by downloading the latest packs from JT, running them (they usually uninstall on the first run) and then run afain to finish the install. If you were missing just some assets the scenarios should run and show an error of which rolling stock was missing. Cornish Main Line Extension South Devon Main Line Extension Oxford to Bicester Extension Paignton Extension How did you uninstall the SW Expressway? Some of this track is common around bristol. You may have inadvertently yanked some of this supporting track. I am assuming it was all working before you removed this? Respectfully
I bought the western mainlines separately sometime last year and then a couple months ago i bought the SDML extension. I tried downloading the installer again and uninstalling and reinstalling the routes if that’s what you’re talking about. I refunded SW expressways on steam, which just took away the files for it, so i’m thinking that the problem is probably what you mentioned. I don’t see why that would make the Cornish mainline not work though since it is separate? Yes it was working fine until I uninstalled SW expressways, but I was still able to use it fine for a little bit after I uninstalled it, it was a day or so afterwards that i started getting problems
Ah that is interesting. I bought everything from Justtrains. If you had the SW Expressway from Steam and took a refund then Steam probably did an update and decided to yank some of your data! To be fair I subscribe to ATS so I can get 10% off JT DLCs. Also actual JT source code provides 2x the scenarios. Purchasing some JT from Steam is usually a bad idea, especially the MML group. Respectfully
There are common assets across all the JT Routes so it is possible some things got removed. Instead of just reinstalling the Western Mainlines Uninstall all the Western Mainlines Collection. Then just put the first section from Paddington back on and give that a try. If that works then you can add the other sections - but test each one after install.
Peter I suspect that this was individual purchases of parts of the route rather than the whole Western Mainline Collection DLC and that when the SW Express (purchased via Steam) was refunded it took some pertinent files out. Respectfully
I’ve got Western Mainlines and then the SDML extension, but I have the cornish mainline as a separate dlc.
Definitely give it a try. For some insight on why JT routes can cause issues, look at this thread. (Short version: JT's shared assets are different in content - which means you should install latest releases last) https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/ticket-just-trains-the-kyle-line-missing-coaches.53434/
I bought the Cornish Mainline and the Southwestern Expressways from DTG. Both western mainlines and the sdml extension were from just trains
May be worth contacting JT and explain your circumstances. You could ask if they could send you the key to the Western Mainlines: The Extension Collection since you have already paid for all of the content anyway. This way you would have a complete collection all in one integrated bundle with no influence from Steam. You could then purchase Siuth Western Expressways from JT also some time in the future. This is the source which I use and have had no issues. Respectfully
If you buy a JT Route from Steam at say 50% of the price I doubt JT would give you a key for the Full Version
It is worth a try. Steam still pays JT for royalties. If you are having issues you never know unless you ask
I've managed to get the route to load with the standard scenarios - I still can't get the scenario editor to work though.
Hey Trike, I’m now having the same issue as you had with Western Mainlines crashing while loading and scenario. Was working fine but seems to have stopped. I also refunded southwestern expressway - Reading. Can you advise how you got your issue resolved and is your western mainlines now working fine? Many thanks in advance.
Hi sorry for the late reply I don't go on these forums particularly often. So firstly just double check that you can't see the southwestern expressways in your DLC section on steam when you right click on steam, go to properties>DLC. I didn't get to check this so I don't know whether it will be there or not. If it is there just uncheck the installation and uninstall it. If it isn't, then unfortunately the only fix I found was to repurchase the Southwestern expressways on steam and then go to DLC and uninstall it. Annoyingly even if you buy the Southwestern Expressways route again on steam it will still muck up the route itself and Western Mainlines so you have to purchase it and then uninstall it. Thankfully if you shoot just trains support an email and just explain everything you've done and that you own Southwestern expressways on steam but can't get it to work on steam then they should (or at least the guy I was speaking to) give you a key for Southwestern Expressways, so at least you do keep the route you paid for, even if you don't want it (send them a screenshot as proof that you own it though). It is a good route to have since some routes like https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/paddington-to-paignton-set-in-2018-19-by-martin-masterson/ have it as a dependency. Let me know if theres anything you don't get or anything that doesn't work and ill try to get back to you asap.
I've realized that's not particularly clear so I'll sum it up. - If you go to properties>DLC and you can see the box in the image uncheck it and it should work fine. - If you can't see this in DLC then unfortunately you will have to repurchase Southwestern Expressways and then uninstall it for Western Mainlines to work. - Even if you don't want Southwestern Expressways you might as well get the route you paid for so just email Just Trains and tell them that you are having issues with Southwestern Expressways on steam and that it mucks up western mainlines if you have it installed. Send them proof you own the route and ask if you could get it added to your account, and they should do it. If you don't care whether you have the route or not don't bother. It's a bit unfortunate that you can't really refund it without messing up western mainlines but in the end I did find that I wanted Southwestern Expressways as it's required for some other freeware routes I wanted which you might as well.
