Hi all, I finally got around to making a map of the German routes in game, the ones coming to game, the suggested ones and the missing ones. This map could provide a framework for connecting up the German routes, in the very distant future of course, but DTG did say they eventually wanted to do all routes ;). This map hopefully shows how route mergers could be useful in providing us with diverse and longer routes than the ones we currently have in-game. For more information on mergers, and how I think they can be done check out my suggestion for route merger packs.

How to join these routes into a network?
A while ago Matt made a few comments about route mergers on a stream (a thread discussing his comments on it). Using those comments and some things pointed out in discussions on the forums, I have made a suggestion for route merger packs. These consist of a loco and a route merger, allowing DTG to ask money for route mergers. Check out that suggestion for more details.

    My thoughts
    Things on this map
I think this map clearly shows that connecting the Ruhr area is very feasible, and I think this could be very fun. This would only need two routes (Köln - Duisburg and Köln - Wuppertal) to be possible. The resulting network would provide us with varied services, hopefully with more rolling stock (such as the ICE 1, 2 and 4, aswell as ICE 3 layers for RRO and HRR, the IC 2 sets, more BR 101 layers and more private operators such as National Express).

Connecting Rapid Transit and the upcoming Riesa - Dresden via a Leipzig - Riesa route is also an option worth exploring in my opinion, as it allows all the routes (mainly RT) to see more varied and longer services. By including the main hall of Leipzig Hbf this merged route network will allow for more IC, ICE, RE and RB services on the current Rapid Transit route.

Furthermore, the options for exploring new countries, or getting more of countries already in game (such as Switzerland) are numerous. Personally I'd love to see a number of Dutch routes, as these provide a lot variety without feeling completely foreign (and out of their area of interest) to players that are used to British and German routes. Besides Dutch routes, Austrian and Swiss routes have some unique rolling stock and great scenery to offer, and I strongly urge you to check out tthe Dutch, Swiss and Austrian suggestions above, and to support the ones you like!

    Things not on this map

This map shows a lot of potential, but also focusses on German, Swiss, Austrian and Dutch routes in the modern era. France has a lot of potential too, and some historic German routes like the following ones could be fun. Hopefully we'll not only see the modern German network from the map above, but also a number of new countries and eras!

Another missing routes are France bound Strasbourg-Offenburg & Bardecourt-Forbach-Saarbrücken- Kaiserslautern Force Base Mannheim. TVM-430 KVB France 25kv 50hz to Germany 15kv 16.7hz Sifa PZB LZB change over points are Forbach and Rhine River Bridge Strasbourg Kehl. Trains on those routes are SNCF TGV POS and 2N2 X73900 & BB 37000 DB BR 181 185 & BR407 ICE3 MS. Of those French German trans-border trains, only BR407 ICE3 MS SNCF TGV 2N2 & POS can go another proposed downloadable content LGV Est Paris Gare L'Est to Strasbourg. For French trains going into Germany German trains going into France, there must be a tutorial for the player on how to switch between 25kv 50hz TVM-430 KVB to German PZB LZB Sifa 15kv 16.7hz. ETCS is still on for French trains operating cross-border Services into Germany. If they wanted a cross Border S-Bahn to France from Freiburg then it will be this routing Mullehouse-Müllheim Freiburg https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Müllheim–Mulhouse_railway . Also my Appenweier-Strasbourg Line another Transborder S-Bahn this one has a SNCF Designation A11 https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...bourg-france-germany-cross-border-line.36592/

I find that route very interesting, because:
-it's steam... but present day... and popular
-lot's of elevation from a city to top of the highest mountain in Harz
-network-like instead of only one long A to B
-ideal steam to begin with as it is not as big as let's say Big Boy

For me that is second place, with Dutch routes coming first. Those two aren't mutually exclusive though.

My route suggestion (Enschede-Amersfoort) is known for trains that travel into Germany, so connecting both, as visible in the map is more then possible. I actually travelled from Almelo to Germany (Almelo - Rheine -Schwerte (ruhr) - Brilon-wald) last summer with friends and it was great. I travelled back over Hamm, and that was great too. The language barrier made for some fun memories :).

Those are Good and I have one that perfectly fits here that's the Appenweier-Strasbourg Railway https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...bourg-france-germany-cross-border-line.36592/. My suggestions links the German route Manneheim-Karshule-Basel with Pixerre's Strasbourg-Basel route https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/strasbourg-basel-route-with-2-locos.33345/

What about the Three Country Corner Route?
It covers Germany, Austria and Switzerland
Lindau (DBB) to Rorschach (SBB) or to Bludenz up to St.Anton (ÖBB)

I find it excellent I do have a transborder route that can actually forms part of the link between German high speed rail and the French TGV Network towards Paris via LGV Est or LGV Mediterranean Line via LGV Rhin Rhone. That is Appenweier-Strasbourg Railway https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...bourg-france-germany-cross-border-line.36592/

Added these changes. On a different note, I hope the roadmap will contain something from this map today. I really want to see a Dutch route (of course Enschede-Amersfoort in particular) and the connection of the Rhein-Ruhr area.

Maybe in a case like this DTG should think about "Route Extentions". So like there are Loco Add-Ons for some Routes, they could for example do a Route-Extention for RRO called "Hagen-Dortmund". This would not work like a seperate Route but would extend the Route and its services. To speak in DTG's pricing, such Add-On could cost around 20€, because it brings no locos with it but just completes/extends the route.

What do you think about it?
    Greetings

I find it interesting that half of the German routes already released are in this one small region of Germany. Screenshot_20210309_114244.jpg

I think it might be an option, but it does bring the DLC problem. €20 might also be a bit steep, I'd say €13-15 is better for extensions of ~20-30 km. A normal route is about 60 km (and 2 locos) for €30, so for half the length (without a loco) I'd expect to pay just under half. With a loco €20 is quite reasonable.

But DTG isn't fond of the extension idea it seems.

With releasing Bochum-Hamm and Münster-Hagen, the Dortmund-Puzzle would also be solved.

Wait what? There are direct passenger services from Hagen to Bochum {Essen), Like the RB40 and the RE 16 coming from Ruhr Sieg Nord. Bochum (and Dortmund) to Hagen would be a very important route if you want to merge HRR RRO and RSN, because it would be an Extension for all these routes. The RE 4 from RRO could go to its Terminus Dortmund, the S5 can run from Hagen to Dortmund via Witten, there are also some S8 services wich continue(d) with only one unit to Dortmund, the RE 16 from RSN could continue from Hagen to Essen, you also have to change direction in Hagen in this run, and all the RE services from RRO can continue to Dortmund, and the S1 via the SBahn Line with the Tunnel section at the Universtity and Dorstfeld also. Maybe add the non electrified RB 52 Dortmund to Hagen (then we need a German DMU), and this bunch of routes would be fairly long

I agree and if you want a route that joins HRR towards the Dutch Border then Duisburg-Oberhausen-Emmerich-Arnhem Railway will do the job. That means you can run Arnhem-Oberhausen-Bochum freight trains. The popup screen at Duisberg will say do you like to continue this service to Bochum Yes or no? The reverse is this do you wish to operate this train to Arnhem yes or no? If you did so it requires PZB, SiFA & LZB to be turned on again for both routes then past Emmerich Station. It will require you to activate ETCS & ATB in addition to the train dispatcher's request to change voltage. That assumes you own HRR & Duisberg Arnhem Railway. Duisberg-Arnhem Railway is my suggestion since I'm doing a bit of self-promotion for my latest suggestion in the forums.

You could add the direct connection between Hagen and Hamm which the ICE runs from Cologne to Berlin (Br 402/412)

This map should be pinned in suggestions. Although it might get people to just suggest everything red then. :D Also don't forget the Nantenbach extension :D

Added these three suggestions to the map, aswell as my own suggestion for Basel SBB - Bern, making the map now span three countries (and connections into others).

I've also taken the liberty of mentioning two of my own historical suggestions: the Preußische Ostbahn: Berlin - Cüstrin in the 1910's and the Saalebahn: Saalfeld - Naumburg in the '90s

At this point someone has to ask: what's the point of this Thread? This isn't a just a suggestion of a route and/or loco, but rather a (very nice!) map of mostly german railway. It is a very nice overview, but this can't be takes as a suggestion anymore

I've mostly intended it as a way to make searching easier, and to help people who want to make new suggestions. With the map they can see what's already been suggested, and which areas haven't yet been. People can for example see that there wouldn't be any use in another Ruhr area suggestion because there are already a lot of them. It can also help to prevent duplicate threads.

In addition to that it can offer new forum members that are interested in North-West European routes a clear overview, from which they can delve into the suggestions they like.

The map itself isn't a suggestion, but a tool for getting an overview over whats already been suggested. And that overview can have multiple uses as I already mentioned. It's also a fun gimmick :).

Correct and there's my suggestion the Oberhausen Arnhem Railway which is used by ICE Trains Amsterdam Frankfurt and Goods trains Rotterdam to Olten & Bern via Koln Basel & Koblenz. That's the main route for the Netherlands to Switzerland Rail Freight Traffic via Germany

With my recent suggestion for the Pegnitztalbahn between Nürnberg and Bayreuth included, the map has onceagain been updated and now has more diesel routes. I've also added a reference to my other recent suggestion: The Main-Weser-Bahn between Frankfurt am Main and Marburg an der Lahn, set in the '90s, which includes the beloved InterRegio services hauled by the BR 111 and the entirety of the S6 line (through the Frankfurt City-Tunnel) with the BR 420 in vintage colours.

If you have any other routes you'd like to see added to the map, please let me know. I'm also considering adding Austrian routes to the map, as they really interest me, and probably others that play German routes currently too :).
